First the apology, Variaz, i sent an email for questions before finding this place, and its purpose is redundant and a waste of your time. Second, the comments. I started playing the just discovered new version (170) and i adore it. I would love to see this 'band get a lot more attention, and after talking to a few friends of mine who play TOME, as i do, and a general consencus is a lack of knowledge that this game exists. its not a large sampling, but 5 of 6 people didnt know what newangband was. Since then, they have played and enjoyed it. (granted that has just been a few hours). So what im asking is... would it be permissible to add a link to the newangband page in my sigs on another message board, notably the TOME one, to try and advertise for your wonderful variant? Third, a comment. This game is one of the most original variants of any kind i've seen, and i have played, literally, over 40 variants. I even rank this above Darkgod's work on TOME. (but dont tell him that. ) I just hate to see it so inactive and relatively unknown. Kudos, and may i say, that you should be made immortal, that this variant should never die. Thanks you for your kind words, and of course you can put a link to the main page and the board in your sigs! If my variant can increase popularity, that would be great! ;D I would really like to see more peoples playing it, and having some fun discussions on this board. And not just bug reports, but peoples posting strategies, character concepts, etc... That would be fun!

well, you can certainly expect to see me around a bit more. I have even put aside my PS2 and my TOME Day in the lives to play more of your variant. This brings me to my next question. HAs someone yet made a set of spoilers and startegys for your game yet, and if not (assuming you have no objections) i may try to write some. (assuming i can ever win)
Also, i wanted to ask, is your variant the one that removed the level cap? I remember reading that in one of the manuals, but cant find it in any of my 50+ variants. Thought it was yours, and just wasnt in teh current version of manual.

Well... there's still a level cap, but you can level up to 100 instead of only 50. I didn't want to go Sangband's route with no experience levels, because you end up being a master of everything, which is no fun. But I tought level 50 was a bit small, so I increased that to 100. I like it that way! Feel free to write spoliers and strategy guides. If you have any strategies or character builds you'd like to share, there's a place in this forum for that too! So far, only two posts, would like to see more of them!

Thanks for the answers. (are you the only one active here?) This alters how i was aiming for, which was good magic, ranged, and melee, but i think ill drop the range now, since skill points are limited.... ditto for stat points. but im looking at a *LOT* more, 148 more to be exact. And do the monsters ever get strong enough to let me change class? Im character level 26, and even the bosses dont count as a class kill anymore.
As far as strategy goes, i probably have more questions then answers, but i do have a question about a monster dropping a *WAAAAYYYYYYYY* out of depth item. I got a valkyrian helm, y'know, the item to unlcok the valkyrie class, on dungeon level 6. Now i havent played much, but it seems to me those are supposed to be a lot rarer, jsut from reading manual and changeslist.
Spoilers, however, i have already started collecting information on...
Oh, and about the 'advertisement', i musta picked the perfect time... the TOME message boards had just started a topic on 'other good roguelikes?'.... hehehe.... Not to mention, its in all my sig's now, linked to the main page.
After i learn a bit more, are DITL's allowed here? and if so, what section would they go under? (granted, theres not many folks here to see em, but advice helps, especially when your new to a 'band as different as NewAngband is from its predecessor.)
And 1 more suggestion, how about item descriptions? For instance, i got no clue what a jingasu is, but apparently, it goes on the head. Most of em (the minor ones anyway) you could pull from the PErnangband\TOME variant. Or did you intentionally leave those out?
(This feels weird, actually talking one on one with the developer. AT least i know i wont get any wrong answers) ;D
(BTW, its annoying not to be able to edit a post. And of course, i cant double post, or some of this woulda been asked sooner.)

oh, and btw, the valkyrian helm came from platinumstone the gaurdian... or whatever that name was now. (hes dead now thank freaking god, i spent over 160000 getting the equip i needed to fight him. Stupid paralysis)
Sry for double post but after i posted first message, i realized you might need to know where it came from.

Came up with another 2 questions that i dont get.... how do i put a pet *IN* a crystal? And at what point does my artifact sword "Asmodis" level? Its several thousand xp now, but still level 0.
Speaking of pets, can the evolve spell be used on pets, without angering them?

By experience level 26, you should be able to change class... But I read from your other post that you got to 26 at dungeon level 6, which is kind of crazy. I would like to know how you got to that level that quickly. (I posted a reply to your other post, please answer it). Out of depth items are most likely part of the item generation bug, though quest rewards are sometime better than normal items you find. However, you do find some stuff like +6 to four stats at low levels, and this WAS a bug, part of the buggy item generation bug, which is now fixed in 1.7.1. You mentionned DITL... forgive my ignorance, but what's a DITL? As for item description, it would indeed be a nice feature. Perhaps not for 1.7.1, but for future versions. Pets in crystal was a feature of 1.6.0/1.6.1, now no classes can do it anymore...but the ability is still there. So it's kind of obsolete, and will be removed in the next release. As for the Evolve spell, there was a bug which would anger pets, and it's now fixed... you will be able to use Evolve correctly now!

Hmmm... A DITL is a "Day in the life". It is where you write out the story of yoru character as they play through the game (in short chapter-long posts) at a pace such that others can enjoy it (they are often written with humor), offer advice (which i need), and to improve someones writing skills. Heres a link to one i wrote in TOME... forum.t-o-m-e.net/viewtopic.php?t=5081&highlight=yggYgg was an Ent Sorceror, 2 very old and familiar terms to angbanders. Hope that helps some, and Lipa should know as well, they were common on the TOME forums. (Lipa = first convert. YAY!) Speaking of which, lipa, can you go back and give a second opinion in the review topic? Thanks in advance. Hope that explains it fairly well, Variaz.

Hmmm... perhaps I could create a new section in the forum for DITL, that could be fun! Of course, it will be more fun if there are more peoples coming here... Hope we get more visitors soon!

Yes, that section would be fun!!!
Oh, and don't worry about the lack of crowd so far. There *WILL* be more members soon, I assure you. Everyone who tries this game is bound to fall in love with it, I'm sure of that!!! We'll just keep on advertising it, right? ;D

im not that worried, but i wann take this wonderful game and *RAM* it down everyones throats, casue i *KNOW* that it is good for them.
So far ive altered my gamefaqs sig, my tome sig, and im writing a review on gamingsource forums... and im emailing every firend i know who is even remotely interested in roguelikes. Sadly, this is too few folks. I just love newangband so much, i wanna share it with *EVERYONE*. I want to be a NewAngband Televangelist. or Netvangelist.

One more thing about the advertising. I think that the review for New Angband on the Angband official homepage (Thangorodrim) should be updated. Currently, it doesn’t tell much, at least not in detail. In fact, I’ve read it quite some times myself when trying to find a *better* variant, but there was nothing in the text that would interest me enough to go and download it. I was even scared away when reading about New Angband being a hard variant. Thangorodrim is each Bander's first stop. I think there should the advertising start. ;D Perhaps someone should write a nice (more verbose) review and send it to the maintainers? Well, just a thought anyway. Be well!

Maybe we could put our heads together lipa? What would you like to see in that reveiw? Furthermore, i will use this as the submission to gamingsource, so any advice on what goes in will be appreciated.
Id also like Variaz's input on what qualities of NewAngband he would like emphasized.
