A little update on some changes for the next alpha/beta release.
Strength will no longer provide bonus to_d. A leftover from 0.4, strength currently gives you +5 to_d per points above 5. Now, this doesn't sound too bad in theory....until you realize that as of 0.5, to_d bonus affects ALL combat styles, not just melee. Since Strength isn't supposed to affect ranged and magic damages, this change had to be made.
Of course, with that change, melee lost a lot of power. With my character, I went for an average of 20-22k damage, to about 9k. Not good. So something had to be done to make up for that change.
What I came up with was to give melee attacks a chance to force max damage rolls, which increases with your base weapon skills. The higher your skill, the higher the chance to force a maximum damage roll with your weapon(with more powerful weapons requiring a higher skill). With this change, my character is now back to hitting over 20k damages, so looks like this might work out.
As for ranged, the multipliers on ranged weapons will be reduced, and the cost of extra shots on levelable items will be increased a little. Ranged is currently too powerful, and needs to be toned down a bit.
Also, Crossbows will now be improved, and the crossbows selection will be largely improved. While Firearms has a nice variety of weapons to use, Crossbows have....four(five if you count the Viper Crossbow). Three two-handed crossbows and one weak one-handed crossbow. So now, they will be redesigned, and will now have basic models, followed by metallic versions, just like bows. And there will be both one-handed and two-handed versions, so the selection will now be much bigger.
