Higar ~finished~

Higar managed to kill Balacia and now has nowhere to go. So long as I didn't take stupid risks he could kill anything except nightmares in one round. There were a number of creatures that could kill him in one round too though.
Conclusion: Ranged needs nerfing at higher levels.

Your equipment looks normal for this point of the game, so I'd say you're right and ranged needs a nerf.

When you say "anything in one round", does this includes things like Mature Dragons and Phoenixes? There is a SERIOUS issue if you can one-round them at that level.

Not met any Pheonix's. Mature dragons where a pain, because I couldn't get them in one round and if they used their elemental spells (breath) on me, that was that. Green Mature Dragons were not difficult as I had 100% resistance to poison and if I spotted them early I could easily kill them before they could close. Killed a few others that didn't spell straight away, but generally avoided as I was trying to dive to Balacia as quickly as possible. Didn't meet a prismatic mature dragon, which could have been dicey.

High end ranged attackers could be a real pain if I was not paying attention (bone lord sniper in particular was v nasty) and some of the magic attackers.

In fact I would say that some of the higher level monsters where more of challenge than Balacia (especially in groups).

This is intended. The main quest bosses are not the hardest enemies, since all characters are supposed to face them at some points.


What about the other aspects of the game? Do you the think the pace is too slow? Too fast? (I'm presonally finding leveling to be a bit slow, and slightly buffed the experience gains of high level monsters) Do you like the new system overall? Did you find enough items worth keeping?

I'd like some feedback, since you seem to be the first who finishes the alpha completely(or at least posted about it).

I think the use of the viper crossbows may be making things easier than if he was using normal ones. They give double the damage bonus of the only other 1-handed crossbow (light crossbow). Even with the increased damage of the better crossbows, which is of set by only being able to hold one of the at a time, the total damages is likely less overall. Though I haven't tested this myself. I'll try to run my crossbowman through to the end. He's using the bigger crossbows instead of two small ones.

PACE
Pace much better now, I felt it was too slow in v4. One suggestion I have is that the first 10 - 15 levels can get very repetitive and boring and whether it would be possible to have an advanced start as an option.

OVERALL
I do like the new system, I'd practically given up on v4 and the numbers game.

ITEMS
Items seem to keep pace with the character now (I found it difficult to get decent items in v4).
With 1 reincarnation on my xbowman I did try a side line in crafting, but I found getting ingredients extremely hard and decomposing items takes extremely high skill:
I had crafting 160 and could still only decompose level 16 items and yet I could craft level 32 items, this seems backwards and is very frustrating. I would suggest 5*level < crafting for composing (no change) and 3 or 4* level < crafting for decompose (rather than 10* level). This would have allowed me to compose level 32 items and decompose level 40 - 53 items.

Not enough greens. I ran a crossbowman almost down to the bottom iv v1 and higar in v1.1 and I found just one green item (felt lucky to find that) and that was a boomerang - useless to my marksman. I do think they could be just a little more common (maybe 1.5%/2% rather than 1% of levelable above level 40)

Balance of items
Too many weapons, not enough other stuff - you only use weapons in 1 or 2 slots (+ammo) out of 14 slots and yet they seem to be more than half the drops. Very frustrating when you are playing an unarmed character!

That's all - any chance of a bit more variety? Perhaps something between Lantern and Orb, which you can occasionally find a magic version of. I hate reading scrolls of magic item over my lantern, but it happens a lot because orbs are so hard to find (exception: orb of dark light when quests are redone). Also you got rid of food (excellent idea), how about getting rid of flasks of oil and making lanterns/torches have eternal light. They don't add much to the game in terms of challenge/interest etc.
