Hi all, just a quick word to say im enjoying the game a lot, having played one of the first rougelikes, to this now.
Im loving how hard it is, and am almost disappointed by the resurrection process (generally choosing to restart). Still, its great to see work being done on what is going to turn out to be a great game.
Keep up the good work.
Fateless.

Thanks a lot! Yes, for some, resurrection is controversial, though the game is nearly impossible without it. But of course, you can always just choose to restart.

Agreed. Mangband has the same resurrection type thing happening as well, again i just restart.
One thing Im curious about though, a lot of the commands are not described in the documents (perhaps im just missing them?), like how to put something in a quiver etc. In every other variant it seems to cover this, but again, perhaps im missing it somewhere?
Also the reference card is an exceptional idea, very handy for newbs.
Thanks,
Fateless.

To put something in quiver, you need to first wield the proper shooter. To put arrows, for example, you need to equip a bow first.

But once the ammo has been equipped, if you change from one type of shooter to another, the system doesn't (r)eject the improper ammo type.

No, but the damages formulas should be documented in the help file. I guess it would be useful though... I do have a calculator for monsters damages though. In fact, it's a "Monster Calculator", as it also calculates their hp and stats for a given level. Not released in public, but very useful for the game's designer! ;D. If the need is, I'll upload it, though it's not C, it's a Delphi program... Looking for a formula in particular?

Ahh, i see it. I used to use a java based damage calculator written for angband, but the site that hosted it disappeared. I guess im just too lazy to go through the calculations myself for weapon damage, since i tend to closely check every item i find, it takes too long. If you get time (ha! ), perhaps you might look into that? Wishful thinking perhaps on my part.
Anyway, was playing to the wee small hours last night and am still enjoying it heaps.
Cheers, Fateless.

If you're asking about progress regarding the next release, well, I've started making the new item system, though in the past weeks, I have been busy with other stuff, so the progress has not been that great to be honest... Seems like implementing the two-hands system and the new won't be that difficult though... I'll try and take some more time this week.

cool...hope to see more progress and the new item system seems neat. Are lua stores going to happen soon?

Lua store aren't a priority for now. Not for 0.3 at least. Possibly 0.4 though.... The stores code is not easy to modify.

Well, I was just thinking maybe you could just skip the hard coded stores and when you go into a store lua takes over. I don't know how hard or possible that would be, I could barely figure out any of the code in angband when I looked through it, but since you can pop up dialogs in lua to talk with people and get items as a result, I assume you could subtract money and so forth.

Yes, that would be possible. I could do an entirely new store system, entirely script-based. But this too would take some time, and rewriting the items system is a higher priority(after all, what's the point of having stores to sell items if items are not working? ). Don't worry though, it will come eventually. Just not in the next release!

Whatever you do with the stores, please don't do what Angband has done in the latest release. I can't seem to get the hang of the new purchase system, and I keep ending up with a whole bunch of stuff I didn't want to buy. ;D Anyway, don't mind this outburst, I'm just being frustrated by Vanilla. Just keep up the good work on Portralis!
