I was scumming the black market in fidac for a phyisical elemental book. I had probably rested for 9999 turns like 50 times in a row.
By the time I had gotten it, the town was filled with ivhalian enchantresses and dwarven defenders! I probably had around 100 people in my vision at all times. There were a lot of townsfolk too.
It was really weird....

Probably not a bug -- the longer you're in a specific area (dungeon level, wilderness square, town square) the more random monsters/people are generated. Just leave that area and come back and they'll be gone. Except, of course, the usual ones that are generated when you enter the area.
Many other rogue-like variants that utilize towns have an overland map view, so one would just go up to that, then back to town to get rid of the random generations. In Portralis, unfortunately, you'll have to go the long way and physically walk off the edge of that map.

Also a secret you may not be aware of is leaving a map clears its stores so they regenerate their stock.

Also a secret you may not be aware of is leaving a map clears its stores so they regenerate their stock. That I didn't know. But since Portralis doesn't use food and the characters never get hungry, just resting for a bit is more convenient than walking all the way to the edge of the map.
