I don't think a Gnome has ever been posted on this forum, I feel they are one of the least played races. Given their in-game representation, I can understand. Would you rather be a reality-twisted chaos aberration? A demon from a cold country ruled by a mighty archdemoness? A celestial, being of pure holiness and light?
...or a Gnome Worm Mage? Or a Gnome Trickster that summons Mirror Balls? Or a drunk, club-wielding Gnome in a tavern? (I'm really not nice with Gnomes.... ;D)
And then there's Magic. I've seen many Melee and Ranged characters, but few(none?) Magic. So! I've decided to roll a Gnome High Mage, and here's what I have so far:
Pretty fun character so far. Though she's not a "pure" High Mage, she also has Elemental Lord abilities.
Spell Absorbtion(Mage) is simply awesome. The "healing" effect is a bit weak(10 power per points), but a single point provides mana regeneration based on enemy spells damages. And since they do crazy damages, that's crazy mana regen.
Empower Spells(High Mage) is a standard 10% damages per points. Pretty good stuff.
Shield of Element(E. Lord), with just 1 point, provides immunity to chosen element for 10 turns. This is useful against magic returning enemies.
Elemental Mastery(E. Lord) is another 10% damages per points for chosen element, and of course, multiplicative with Empower Spells.
So what kind of damages do I output? With my standard power 100 ball spell, I get about 3-4 million per cast. Not bad at all, and I still have some item slots to fill(mainly, a second rod). And then when I use a power 75 radius 5 chain, it is simply deadly, although it consumes a lot of mana. But then the monster cast a spell, I avoid it, and bam! Mana refilled, another chain!
Ranged enemies have been the most annoying so far, as they are not easily avoided, and due to my semi-inexistant armor, I get hit all the time.
Issues:
- Spellcraft's Enchanted Blood is broken. The sacrifice is meaningless for a full mana refill, to the point where I don't use it, it's almost cheat mode. I mean, 5000 hp for 5000 mana?? I'll take that every days.
- On the other hand, Spellcraft's Mana Shield is also broken, but in the "useless" kind of way. 5000 mana reduced to 0 for 5000 hp?? No. Just...no. I might as well use "Hide" instead.
I plan on raising spellcraft enough to get the mana bonus, then continue with Elemental or maybe Alteration.
Overall, a fun character. It would be fun to see more Magic characters once in a while! They might need a couple buffs to some of their classes abilities, but are overall quite fun!
