All natural points goes to DEX and Firearms, defense skills\stats are raised by equipment - so first 20 levels were spend in suicide diving to chickatrice cave (until i've found first blue item).
Now I'm on stage of hopeless search for karingen firearms (or anything green ) on dungeon level 50.
Already replaced 2 blue items to depth 20 indigo items, but lost two 25depth guns in the Flow - first due to instakill with random generated monster, second due to underestimating final boss melee atacks.
I don't wear nightmare items, but sometimes carry them to boost chance of finding something good (with nightscouts nightmare ability). Sadly on misfortune level 200 most items are red, so finding green still seem impossible. 10 and 20 level nightmares are pretty easy to kill, but I always run from a more powerful ones.
With 2.8kk hp and 300k AC the only cause of deaths are instakills - crazy 100 level nightmare dealt over 22.000.000 hp with just one spell.
True shot is a main atack ability - because a lot of high level monsters just dodge 90% of shots and block the rest 10%. I have a normal gun in one hand and a fire-shooting in other, so have troubles only with monsters immune both to Physical AND Fire - against them i have to use piercing shots or let them live.
Immolating shot is a secondary atack - against monsters without fireimmunity and crazy dodge + block.
Ricochet shot are useful against packs of fire hounds, fire elementals, fire-immune imps.
Other Marksmen abilities looks fine, but True shot+Immolating shot are better.
Improve Ranged Weapon - well, I just missed it when planning.
Counter shots - fine for low levels, but later is just waste of ammo, so i turned it off.
By the way, some abilities seem little overpowered now -
1. with 3million hp i'm just afraid to imagine how powerful Light of Life will be (just 10 AP and you will wipe everything that is not immune to light and can use all your skills and rest of AP to do what you want).
2. with AC 33000 Defender Armored Might will give 150STR per AP?
