Well, what can I say? This is one of the most fun character I've played for a while, and the first serious ranged character I've made in a long time. I'm happy she succeeded, as it proved that ranged has a lot of underexploited potential, and is true to the "All monsters should be playable" rule I had in mind when I remade the race. And I didn't mean that for monster races in general, but for every individual monsters. So no need for playing a Celestial Knight/Fallen Angel/Celestial Princess or anything like that. A Young Angel is perfectly fine and fully playable. And very strong!
Where to begin? Bows are simply awesome! The damages are respectable on their own, but thanks to Mastery of Elements + Light Arrow(Young Angel's innate ranged move), the damages are much higher per shots. The good thing about having 3 shots is that they can be spread, and combined to a radius attack and a returning arrow, that makes it even more powerful! The long range attacks definitely made up for the lack of melee's extra blows, and in many case, I found it more useful. The bow's innate AC allowed me to block attacks, and that happened often thanks to the high dexterity. Small but Deadly is very good with the Young Angel as she is a depth 1 monster. I placed every level up points in dexterity to maximize damages and hit rate. I rely mostly on items for constitution. The rest is mostly natural Monster race bonus.
The drawbacks? Well, to be honest, this little angel had a rough start. By placing everything in dex, she was vulnerable, and got a few unfortunate deaths in the 10-20 levels. But as levelables started coming up, hp increased, so did defensive stats, and she became much difficult to harm. Right now, she doesn't have any real drawbacks anymore, save perhaps a bit of versatility problems against light immunes. Also, her int/wis could be a bit higher, because right now, her Innate Elemental Mastery is difficult to land successfully. Perhaps an item or two dedicated to int would help, and perhaps some alterations could be useful. (because I WILL be evil for 50+ monsters! ;D)
Best kill: Planar Phantom
Yeah. This monster is normally pretty mean, but with ranged light-based attacks that can be spread, it's teleport ability is no problems, and it can be killed rather easily. High magic defense helps me dodge it's rather mean spell.
Most feared: Fallen Angel
Yikes, this guy completely destroys my little angel. My physical special isn't strong enough, inner elemental mastery's piercing is hard to land due to lower int/wis. It, on the other hand, is very fast and powerful, capable of dark attacks, and therefore can easily kill my angel.
Future:
I'll probably spend a bit of time in the Flow, since there's not much more to complete in terms of quests after Simon. Or I'll continue the main quest and perhaps make a new dungeon. I'll continue empowering her, perhaps go the way of Paragon for the double damages ability. Perhaps I'll dedicate one or two items to intelligence for inner elemental mastery and maybe some alterations. I might try my luck against Phantom of Misery and Violet Nightmare. If I can beat them confortably, I might consider equipping a red. It would help with the int/wis/alteration bonus.
-- General comments --
The Flow:
The new feature has paid off. I enhanced a lot of my currently equipped items through this, and that really helped, especially the returning arrow. It's not easy, and gets quite tough as you progress. But it's worth the trouble. And it's fun. Now that I have grinded some items and got good stats, I will probably attempt a higher level item!
Ranged:
I am both happy and sad about this character. This character, along with all other humanoid ranged monsters, shows how much potential the ranged fighting style has. Unfortunately, normal races cannot enjoy the ranged style much at the moment. The Marksman is one of the most useless class in the game, and the Gunner is pretty much the only choice(and it could probably be enhanced a bit). The difficulty of getting high dex doesn't help either. I'm afraid I'll have to recommend Monster for ranged characters at the moment. Everyone likes elven archers, but a Skeleton Archer is far superior. Looks like they're better when they're dead. (well, you can always play an Elven Arcane Archer Monster...). It will definitely need to be improved in the future, it's really good.
-- Bugs Encountered --
- If you don't have returning ammos, and use a radius ranged attack, it will drop arrows on every affected cells. However, only one will actually have a real arrow. The rest are arrows with a quantity of 0! Will have to find a way to fix it...
- When loading my game, my flow-enhanced artifact boots were back to their normal AC. This is because artifacts returns to their base stats values when loading a game! This is now fixed.
- Removed the Satisfy Hunger books and scrolls.
