After being involved with the thread for gunners and mana in the tips and strategies forum, I got to thinking.
There is a discussion there about the balance of the immolating shots gunner ability. It got me wondering, "How do field spells do damage? That should be the standard for balancing immolating shots."
So, How do damaging field spells do damage?
Is it like other spells? Power x (spellstat - 5) ... then modified by conjuration skill?
Or is there some other formula like just power modified by conjuration skill?

For damages, it's the same as the elemental spells, except it's modified by Conjuration. Otherwise, same formula.

Is it modified by both spellcraft and Conjuration, the same way elemental and spellcraft both modify elemental spells?

Yes. Whenever a monster walks in a field, it triggers a standard projection effect. The difference is that magic returnings won't return damages from fields.
