Does anyone know anything of use about curing 'meat'? I know that you can hack of edible portions from many corpses, but I haven't really figured out curing yet. If done properly (however that would be), does it just turn into for, or does it have other properties, too?

In the past, some of the meats could be poisonous, and I think curing them removes the poison of poisonous meats(I never used it though). Now, with the new monster system, corpses are never poisonous for the moment, so right now, the command is pretty much useless, and could probably be removed. Rations of Food are so cheap anyway, and you don't even need food anymore when you get the Statisfy Hunger spell.

I didn't think it did much, but I hadn't experimented enough to really know. I'll just ignore it like I had been.

You used to be able to temporarily get the resistance of the monster corpse you ate. If you hacked the meat off you would also get the resistances, possibly other bonuses such as speed boost or infravision, I can't remember now. I never new that there was a way to cure the meat as well.

I don't think it was ever part of NewAngband, but in some of the other *Band variants, meat was cured using potions of salt water. Eating the meat was a food source, and would have side effects sometimes as mentioned above, depending on the monster it came from. Not all side effects were pleasant however, I recall getting poisoned many times from monster meat. The advantage to curing meat was that it wouldn't rot while you were carrying it. Rotten food was always bad for your health.

The command is pretty much obsolete I think... Food is very easy to get, and is no longer needed as soon as you get Satisfy Hunger. I do not see myself working hard to implement such a trivial feature... might as well remove the command.
