I'd like to try out a paladin, but as soon as I try to decide what to put my first point into I'm not sure what to do. Magic missile is twice as strong as holy bolt, the summon sword leaves me out of some great weapons, and the priest's light branded mace, I think, is better due to not being so specific. (light brand helps with all monsters, not just evil) I won't be needing the aura of life until later when I get allies. I had one idea to have lots of points in aura of life and the justice warriors call angel to have almost invincible summons, but It would leave me weak early game. any other ideas for a paladin character?

Magic missile is twice as strong, but does missile type damage, and thus gets half benefit from spellcraft, and is subject to partial reduction a lot more. Plus, if you end up fighting undead a lot, they all seem to have 100% susceptibility to light.
You might save your points until class level 6, and throw them all into shining armor. That looks like it might be kind of fun to me. It is an issue saving your points until then though.

Shining Armor + High Defense Skill + some Defender abilities = Holy Defender. Oh, and in the next release, I do plan on raising the damages of Holy Bolt to 10. It will end up doing more damages than Magic Missile if you have high spellcraft, but Missile will still be more useful against magic immunes, and there are very few things that will be immune to missile. That's it's main advantage. And I might also change the spell damages to be based on the main casting stat instead, so in this case, Magic Missile will have Int-based damages, and Holy Bolt Wis-based damages. Here's a suggestion you could try. Haven't tried it yet, but might when I'm done coding.... (I WANT TO PLAY!!! ): Try maybe placing a few points in Holy Bolt for a decent free ranged attack(and more importantly, a ghost killer), place maybe 8 points in Blade of Purity to get a nice, free, 4d7 undead/demon slaying sword, and when you reach class level 6, focus on Shining Armor for a while. Then, when you upgrade to Justice Warrior(I assume you will), get some Bless Weapon(which can be used on the Blade of Purity!), and Angelic Call can be good if you have good Charisma and Leadership skill, which a Justice Warrior will probably have(thouh right now, there is only one angel-type monster, but there will be more in the future. It's a good one anyway.). For skills, focus on Swords as your main weapon skill, your other skills should be Defense and Agility(splitting points in both is more effective than raising only one of the two). That should give you a nice character to play with!

Just something random I wanted to ask, how do you put gold at home? I can't figure out how to.

Use the 'y' command. You will be able to generate a pile of golds with up to 30000 golds inside. It will appear in your inventory, and then you can drop it in your home.

Actually tried the holy defender build. I took 3 levels in priest (1 point in Holy Might, and enough levels to leave). My current buffed AC is 3163 at level 19, 1804 unbuffed. Kind of fun to wade through melee types. I can detail the rest of the build for anyone curious, but 12 points in shining armor so far. I'm just saving up for Armored Health now.
