What is + To Hit Dice

This question is not exactly for newangband , cuze i just DL -em .
I wonder what exactly is effect of Hit Dice . For example as maybe you know in angband , zangband , hegband and etc. there is a Hit dice for each race and +to Hit dice for some classes .I assume that Hit dice influance Hit Point of character and Damege that he make with weapons , or maybe both ?
Can someoen tell me exacly pls ?
And also after my skill like fighthing , shothing etc. increase above chaos rank they begin to apear like amber (). The more is bether i know , but some more clearness will be super for me.
Thats for now , hope my questions are no too stuped ;D

Hit dice is how hit points are figured out. If a monster or player had 5d6 hit dice then he could have any where from 5 (1 rolled on each of five dice) to 30 (6 rolled on all 5 dice). So basically the more hit dice you have the tougher you are.

Skills in Newangband do not work that way, but I think I can help you still. You have the right idea as far as what you want. In Newangband all the skills have numbers so you don't have to translate to a name ranking.

Thanks for answear! I was almost sure that this for HIT POINTS , but you know TO HIT also can mean TO HIT some monster and make damage. Thats why i was a bit uncertain.
