Well, I'm on vacations now, so I plan on working quite a bit on NewAngband 1.8.0! The beta version of 1.8.0 should be released soon, and I even started making the beta version quest! It will be a nice, short adventure that will introduce the various features of NewAngband 1.8.0!
Remember the idea I got about NewAngband being able to handle multiple adventures(multiple lib directories)? Well, it's implemented! You can now have more than one lib directory, and therefore more than one quest! And all you have to do is open a Current.lib file, change "lib" to whatever you want, and that's it! Right now, however, there is no possibility of using the same character in different adventures... this may not be implemented until 1.9.0...
Also, NewAngband 1.8.0 features a nice dialog system for talking with the various characters! It allow you to make choices, and these choices will open quests, etc... The dialog system is simple, no scripting or coding needed, and yet it is powerful enough to do interesting things. You could, for example, have a good and an evil faction, and make it so that if you accept a quest from one, the other will never speak to you again!
The universe is completely different from the normal Angband. Don't expect to meet many monsters coming from about 20 differents universe(Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, D&D, Pern, to name a few...), but instead prepare to meet Devlings, Zulgors and other NewAngband stuff! I have written a nice introduction to the universe, which you can read when you create a new character! And of course, more will be revealed as you play trough the game!
The playable races roster has decreased in 1.8.0. I think there was too many races in NewAngband. Now, there are less races, but they are more balanced, and they all have their background. There are 10 races(11 if you count the Monster race), and these are Human, Half-Elf, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Kobold, Devling, Celestial, Demon and Zulgor. And Humans are no longer jack-of-all-trade, no-bonus, no-penality, they actually have bonuses like all other races!
Well, that's it for now... More will be revealed when I get the beta out! Of course, it will only be a short adventure, but that will be enough to test the various features, and providing a few hours of fun as well!
