Is the only gear a Monk can realistically use limited to just Rings, Amulet, Light source, Missiles?
The speed and AC penalties for wearing armors seems to in most cases overwhelm the benefits. But that leaves the Monk sorely lacking in resists and sustains it seems.
What is a starting Monk to do when they encouter a Boss/Elite that is Immune to Physical damage? Most races are incapable of anything else, and Immunities seem very common.

Monks have at least one ability that is magical, Ki Punch. And when you get to be a Zelar there are several that do Mana damage rather than physical. If you're not far enough along to have gotten this ability yet then I say just run away.

The only slot that a monk is penalized for using is the chest slot. They can still use gloves, feet, cloak, helm and bracer (not shield). Don't forget about the range and ammo slots, you can get some nice bonuses from them as well.
Hope this helps, Nork

Monks have a "Unarmored Combat" ability that gives them base AC bonus when wearing no chest armor. Combine that with a good Agility skill, and you will get a good AC! Ability gives +4 base AC per points, with only 10 points, it gives you 40 base AC, which is actually hard to get with a regular chest armor. Put 20 points, and you have 80 base AC, more than the best heavy armor. Maybe you won't miss that chest slot all that much after all!

Thanks! I was thinking traditional monks in other bands, they are screwed with any armor in most of the slots.
