I've always been a fan of making my own items. Without playing a Soul Mage, is it possible to add magic flavor to the generic items you can make? I like being able to make my own Steel Mail, but without being able to enchant it, what's the point? Essences or potions or crystals could be used for this.
How about some more parchments which give hints for advanced alchemy/crafting?

For the moment, the only way is to buy a scroll of Magic item, and use it to enchant your stuff. In the not-so-far future, though, I plan on making Alchemy more useful by allowing you to brand your weapons with various potions. Being able to craft magic items would be fun too! I am thinking of a feat that would give some "tweak points" to the items you craft(the same your blue items gains when they level up), so you can spend them on various attributes. So you craft a weapon, then add bonus, the use alchemy to brand it, and you get quite a nice weapon.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was hoping for!
