Well, since it will happen far more often now, might as well make it a little more fun, hmm?
Now, when you die, instead of seeing the tombstone and having to quit the program, you will be transported to a "Limbo" area, where you will be able to choose between three portals:
1. Resurrection: entering this portal will add a death count, and will resurrect you. The usual death penalty for death. As of 0.4, however, I have added a bit of leniency on what is taken away, and any items with a value of 1000 or lower will NOT be taken away anymore. This is to allow starting characters to keep their starter equipment and not have to buy things over and over.
2. Reincarnation: a new feature, reincarnation will resurrect you. But in addition to that, all stats, skills and abilities will be reset, and you will be able to reassign them as you wish. However, each reincarnations will be marked on your character's sheet, and they will severely hurt your score. (see below for more info about score revamp)
3. Final Death: permanently kill your character. Your name will be added to the high scores list, and after that, the character will no longer be playable. If you're tired of a character, you might as well do this.
SCORE REVAMP
Score doesn't mean much in the current build, but in 0.4, it will be a bit more meaningful. Your score is now calculated by your kills of different species of monsters. Everytime you kill a type of enemy, you gain 10 points. You will instead gain 20 points if you kill an elite version, and 30 if you kill a boss. It doesn't matter how many of a single type of monster you kill, it's the diversity that is scored. For example, killing a Small Kobold and a Kobold Infantry will be worth 20 points. However, killing 100 Small Kobolds will only be worth 10 points. Uniques are worth 50 points, and Nightmares are worth 100.
Score is now displayed on your character's sheet, so you can see it at any time, and rate your performance.
Deaths lowers your total score by 10% for each deaths. This isn't additive however, so 10 deaths doesn't mean 0 points. If you have 1000 points and die, your score is lowered to 900. If you die again, it will become 810. A third time would mean 729. And so on.
After that, you get a 33% score reduction for every reincarnations. This is a huge penalty, as it's not something that you should do unless you really mess up your character and don't want to spend time getting new items.
With this, I think scoring gets a little more fun, and it will make death smoother, in that you won't have to close the program and reopen it every times. If you care a lot about score, you can now play in "one-life" mode and get permanent death when dying. If you don't care about scoring and play more for the story or just for fun, feel free to reincarnate like crazy and enjoy many different builds!
And I think that extra bit of leniency with being allowed to keep items worth 1000 golds or less is pretty fair for new characters.
