Aagh! I was playing a mage, switched to monk, then switched to monster mage, and now I can't cast my mage spells anymore, except through wisdom casting, and I never bothered to put many points into wisdom! To top that off, the monster-spell-learning interface is rather frustrating - in the middle of a heated battle holding down the arrow key to fight off hordes of monsters, I have many times missed out on an opportunity to learn a monster spell just by not noticing the prompt! And now I have 3 copies of the "eye beam" spell, because I didn't understand how the spell-learning interface worked - why does putting a monster spell in slot 1 map it to the key a, 2 map to b, etc, and overwrite existing spells without prompting??? Now I've got a level 9 character who can't advance further because anything he's capable of killing doesn't grant any XP, and anything that grants XP is too hard to kill
After all this complaining, though, I do want to compliment you, Variaz, for all your work on this game - now that I've figured out a few of the "secrets" (like, killing relatively weak monsters compared to the character doesn't count for XP or class-kills, and the monsters get insanely tough unless you put some points into a fighting skill and a magic skill - elites that resist or reflect one type of attack are a pain! - and you have to put your gold in a pile and drop it in your home, and the town cave is full of ego-items free for the taking, etc., etc.) - phew! this game is actually pretty neat - kinda like the roguelike equivalent of one of those console RPG's like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, where if you die you just come back a bit poorer and you know what to try next... only this game has item crafting and alchemy and all kinds of neat combat talents and custom spells that LOOK ridiculously unbalanced until you find the monsters with 1,000 hitpoints and reflective hides that blast you with your own spells!
