Haste, haste other, blessing, and (I haven't found the book yet to check) reduce speed all work as promised, but they have a set power. For example, haste gives exactly +10 speed. With the way many things are currently, I was wondering if having a variable power to the spells is something worth considering. That way, one could make a more powerful effect that would have a more useful effect later in the game. I'm not sure if a linear or increasing cost per power would be better if such a plan would be implemented. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Wow no one else has posted in so long I was thinking the forums were dead. Even Variaz hasn't been on lately. I check the forums daily for activity and nothing. lol. To me speed is a dead issue. Monsters that are uber are so much faster its not funny and the ones you can kill are not going to be affected by a speed boost on your part...though I guess you might kill them faster. I liked the way it was important in the bands particularly tome but here it seems to be if not worthless...not all that important. Most important is having a strong attack and second most important is having a strong defense.

Well, I guess there isn't much to say at the moment. Still implementing features, though it's kind of slow. I am actually thinking of putting some features on hold to allow for a faster release, such as the Nightmare abilities. I'll probably just do the ones for the Nightmares that can actually be beaten at the current level of the game, and wait for the others. I don't think the game is far enough at the moment to be able to beat rank 200+ nightmares, so no point in doing their abilities for now. Besides, it's all scripted, so it can be added on later.
I guess I may have been a bit ambitious with the 008 release... Well, at least Music and Mining are in, so I'll probably make the bard and a couple new quests, but might put some other things on hold for a minor release or 009.

not at all, haste is rather helpful. Big melee'ers can make use of it, with a weak wisdom cast version, for a nice +10 for the duration of a fight... ditto for blessing too... gives you that little bit of an edge you might need.

The reason I was thinking that an adjustment to these spells would be helpful is the very reason you mentioned: they become much less useful as you progress through the game. If the power were variable, though, that could make them useful for longer. I don't think this is especially important, though, as they already work fine the way they are. I just like all the extras I can get.
