After summong an aggravating an Animated Knight I'm not sure if this is a good ability for a Mage. It is sure to get hit by any spells with radius and even bolts can be dangerous when cast at unusual angles. They would probably be better off using Summon spells when they actually need a source of non-reflective physical damage.
That doesn't mean I think the ability should be removed, it just feels more suited to an Enchanter. With Craft+Intelligent Fighting they're not as dependant on spells as a Mage and they can create MUCH better items for constructing the knight with. Maybe it could even benefit from Brands (if it doesn't already) and the Etch Runes ability.

in general pets have a really bad rep in port for turning on their masters. Summons being no different in that respect from any other pet. Ive never bothered with Armored knight personally but then it isnt my style of play. I enjoy pets in games where they are useful, strong and totally loyal. being beaten to death by a summoned Jindar Guard because something you couldn't control happened near by is a sure sign you aren't cut out to be a pet master.

Although I did have fun with them...for the wrong reasons. : variaz.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=bugreports&action=display&thread=640In any cases, general pets could be improved. But for the Animated Knight, specifically, I have though of something. We don't create a single knight, but rather a knight "template". Once created, it can be summoned at any times. More points in the ability allows more powerful knights to be created, and being able to summon more than one. Knights created from items with activations could gain spells. This has many advantages: - MUCH easier to code than having each single knights with their own spells. It doesn't seem like it, but it's actually not that easy. Well, not terribly hard either, but there's stuff to implement. - Much more useful. At least, if you're gonna sacrifice artifacts, make it a long-term investment! - "True" monster creation is something that hasn't been done yet. This would make the ability much more worthy of a level 10.

I still think it needs to be 100% loyal with no chance of turning on you. It is an animation...in theory you control its movements with your thoughts...there should never be any chance of you losing control of it.

Yea, without it being 100% loyal, it would be a big problem if it turned on you. The new template concept certainly does sound a lot better than anything that currently exists. It would remain to be seen if it would be useful as pets have been really wimpy to this point.
Also, would it be possible to change the messages so that all pet messages could be turned off completely or set on a separate window? In general, I don't even want to know what a pet does, let alone having to scroll through screens of messages after ever single action. Even if you don't specifically recruit them, they sometimes just join me and clog up the message screen.

Was anything done with these to code them for the new ideas, or are they still the old way?
Also, if you use 'red' items as components, will the animation have misfortune or not?

It's still the old code.
Using red items will not give misfortune to the knight. It will be a normal knight, albeit stronger.

Hehe, I saved a bunch of APs and made a level 8 knight out of very standard equipment. He was pretty good, made a nice tank to distract attention at least, however when I accidentally angered him and escaped, I had to escape every time I changed level as he was linked to me as an (angry) pet. I was eventually able to kick his butt however that didn't raise my opinion of a animated knight as an ability and I have not used it since.

Hmmm...looks like you've found a Unique Feature that needs some improvement. (our word for bug on this forum. )
