So my dear Katana Dancer Aya decided that it was too humiliating to flee Udor when the orcs attacked, instead preferring to stay and fight. And at level 19, with a 5d10 purple steel katana and the Masterwork Shortsword which she didn't give back to Walmus or Aria, she has defeated all the orcs and goblins that were invading Udor. It was quite satisfying, and a good source of experience too! I'm wondering if anyone attempted to fight the Udor invasion, and managed to beat them all! Needless to say, I'm really proud of my first serious Monster character at the moment! But the funniest part is that there was actually a survivor! A lone townsfolk woman survived! So I decided to talk to her, and talk about rumors, and she told me that orc sightings were just rumors, and they must be just groups of assassins or thieves.

The closest I came to pwning the orcs was with my crafter. But with that character I waited until I was well into the crafting and had some serious firepower to deal with the fireballing Shamans. Even then it was touch and go. I expect that +20 speed is quite broken if you can deal out enough damage to 1hit kill the orcs and then run for cover... Not sure how you survived the barrages of fireballs from the various casters...there should be a ton of them from all angles. My crafting guy did it commando-style using various broken buildings to take out small batches at a time without exposing himself to the barrages and then teleporting out of danger when the casters got too close.

I also used the buildings as cover, and took the shamans one by one. I had 10 Magic Defense, and it helped too. And of course, +28 to speed is never bad! ;D
The "correct" way to beat the shamans, however, it to get fire immunity. It actually ain't that hard. You can easily get 50% by purchasing two rings of resist fire. And then there are some artifacts that gives you fire resistance. Otherwise, just pay attention to the various purples you find, or use alchemic resistance. Of course, being a Fire Lord is another way.
You could also raise your magic defense a lot, and use Great Guard in case they get a lucky shot.

Well i failed, but i tried way back in the 'original' portralis, and i actually had a hilarious time watching the simulacrum of the recently introduced main questor that we just beat (and captured with a soul gaurdian) toast the orc army while i ran.
Is there an available source of wall creation this early on? That might help a lot... Summoning a meat sheild for the fireballs might help too. Oh how often i used that tactic. (helped a lot in the fight with the questor too.) Ill have to make sure to annihilate the orc army sometime... the cash would be a nice boost. and of course theres no shortage of food once you get started.

the Orc Shaman Fireballs have a wicked radius...forget meat shields. Fire resistance is the way to go. That and just being uber

+28 to speed is never bad! ;D How exactly did you manage that so early on? Edit: Nevermind, just found the innate +20. Got it.

My angel Sheeniel defends the people of Udor too. Three of townspeople survived the orc raid. And no one of orcs. A soul of a great shaman cached and two champions too. Never mess with a raging (half)angel!

Dulmir of the Order of the Living Steel has righteously defended the people of Udor from the tyranny of the Orcs! (well, 2 of them anyway, I didn't see any other survivors... ) Lvl 10 Dwarvish Crafter... Lvl 13 by the end of the battle. ;D I had to swap out his preferred melee style for a pure wisdom caster offensive build to do it however. That and a lot of teleport scrolls for mobility. Orcish champions were the real problem during the fight. Tough, fast, and they'd carve him into tender vittles if they ever caught him. A Reflect amulet an 18 Magic Defense and 5k hp kept the shaman fireballs from being a major factor.

Forestwalking is awsome for sniping attacks. it's really not difficult to create a tunnel though the trees so you need to worry only about one target at a time, and you can step back and heal/ step forward an fight, as long as you don't have to worry about one shot kills. Requires that you spend 1 ability point, currently be a ranger, or have chosen angel or demon for your race.

In fact, that is why Celestials and Demons can forest walk, they have flight as a racial advantage. Now, realize that levitation is not the same as flight... I think some or all of the Dragon Scale Mails grant flight too.

well, i suppose i could have included a ring of flying or the dragon scale mails in there. I've never actually seen the ring, but it's certainly feasible. The listed options are available much sooner though.

Oddly, the Dragon Scale flight ability does NOT allow you to fly over the chasm tiles in Quazar's temple, unlike the celestial racial ability - nor does it prevent you from taking damage from Lava tiles.

This is because the placement of the code that makes flying also grant levitation is after the racial flight code, but before the equipment flight code. I fixed that in my version of the passive.lua that I included with the Kensai class code I sent to Variaz, so it should be included in build 003.

There was also something in the code that I believe I fixed. It should work now, though I haven't actually tried it.
