I was able to beat the imps quite easily with my kensai. I just dropped all his equiptment at home and bought a bronze long sword. I was able to kill each one in about two rounds and by taking advantage of corners I never had to worry about being attacked by more than one. The level 40 ones were harded, but I had a strong enough Heal to counter their attacks. I've never fought the boss. I always buy a 30+ point Charisma Licialhyd and leave it at the stairs until I kill the imps. Then I pick up and use it before opening the door. Chall T. Dow Yeah, that's pretty much how the quest was intended to be beaten when I made it. But for many builds, it may be too hard. Hence the nerf of the greed monsters.

I managed to beat this quest once with a martial arts character. It took several tries to kill the boss due to her nuking me with missle storm, but the imps weren't too bad. For fighting with absolutely no gear, martial arts is definitely the way to go.

So I tried using Chall's method of doing this quest with my celestial defender (went completely naked and just relied on my high wis casting ability to light damage the greed imps to death...no problem...BUT I could not get the licialhyd to work against the boss until I bought a level 35 charisma one...the +30 cha one just did nothing. I also found out that you can NOT combine licialhyd bonuses. Also she did not give me the reward I got with my crafter when I did succeed (bug??) Also note that the boss starts off by casting missile storm so unless you have insane hp somehow (??) you die automatically if you fail to convince her. The only time this did not happen was on my kensai/soul guardian character when I managed to survive the storm and jump out of the hallway and jump jump jump to a defensible position. But my defender naked only has 3k with 15Con and 8 points in armored health (no armor no health) (both con and health are MUCH higher with equipment). Honestly that instakill spell is really aggravating. Im very dispointed that after all that effort to charm the boss came to naught with no reward. :/

Her reward is the reward of knowing you did the right thing by avoiding more bloodshed.

Im guessing based on that comment Sekira you never got her reward...I did on my crafter.

Of course I forgot an important part of it. :/

Her reward is the reward of knowing you did the right thing by avoiding more bloodshed. That and an artifact if you go meet her in her house. It's near the black market in the southwest slums.

She's level 50, the spell does 8517 damages. With a mind of 172, that gives her a 'power' of 222. It takes about 22 Magic Defense to have near 50% chances to avoid it, which isn't too bad, although she does cast 2 spells per rounds. If you have good constitution, you can survive, otherwise you need good magic defense. At least in the next upload, the newly improved Spell Absorbtion, Reflect Magic and Counter Spell will help defend against magical attacks.

8.5k is actually quite abit unless you are a warrior type. My character had 15 con natural and that provided only 2k or so naked. (nearly 50k armored but she has a ton of levelables. =edit= not a warrior by trade though she is a priestly wiscaster with defender for health/ac.) I had forgotten the last part of the quest the last time I charmed her so I missed out on the item...took me a while (and looking back through old notes) to remember what it was she said. Id love to have a section for completed quests/quest texts in the ~ menu. There used to be such a section in newangband and I assume you took it out to avoid spoilering but I think it is a vital tool for those of us with lousy memories.

Most characters have an option to repeat what they said when they give quests directions, so if you forgot a location, it's easy to get it back.
I really don't like the "quest journal" approach for Portralis, as it does give spoilers. Being able to discern what's worth it and what's not is part of the game, and there shouldn't be a "quest entry" to do that for you, thus making it impossible to get false rumors(a pointless quest entry would be rather lame). NPCs mentions things, and you are free to check them out or not. There may or may not be something.
And then it gets more complicated since there can be many complex developments. For example, killing a character related to the quest, doing the quest before actually having it given to you(things don't always magically appear just because someone talks about it!), etc... For example, what would we do in the case where the player visits the Harrington mansion before getting the Vipers quest, and decides to kill Harrington and the maid? Especially since in this particular case, this actually leads to a secret artifact? We can't add a "failed" notice for Stealthy Vipers quests since the player might not have found the Vipers, that would be spoilers. Complex scenarios would become a pain, and would produce too much spoilers if we used notices.
And also, one thing I will NEVER implement is a "QUEST" flag to make some NPCs unkillables, or items undroppable. Do not even ask for this one. This will NEVER happen. You are a very powerful character, there's no way you should be forced to listen to anyone you don't want to listen to.
One thing I could do in the future, however, is implement an option in dialogues to record what a character says in a text file which would be accessible in-game. This would allow you to remember what you think is important, without ever spoiling anything! I think this would be the best thing to do.

It fits perfectly with what Id expect.

While i was trying out various strategies with my crafter, I noticed a couple of things. Greedsoak makes the target immune to every non-damaging attack as well. I was hoping to evolved or unevolved the imps to something that I could damage easier. I did find that using a claymore and using bless weapon helped, as along as I dropped almost all of my gear and used gear that was almost entirely focused on doing damage, but that only worked when reduced the greed effect as per variaz's suggestion above and was fairly chancy. Out of curiosity, when is the slay demon flag factored in? It doesn't appear in either elements.lua or combat.lua that i can find. Nor is it available as a random enchantment on items.

My kensai, Oshikuru, was able to beat the imps even with levelable items in every slot (except for |, what is that?). His stronger sword does max 287K damage, but that wasn't enough and neither was both swords combined with Dual attack. Oshikuru, in his great wisdom, decided to take a nap. Sure they hit him in his sleep, but he had enough hp to handle it so he just swatted them back. Eventually he woke up refreshed and the imps were gone.

The first time I completed the restless dead quest, I got and read both notes but the quest was not completed when I talked to Krind. I loaded my backup save file\, redid the quest, and it completed successfully

Killing Namira is easy...capturing her is impossible. I know a long time ago I managed it once but apparently that was a fluke because I can not get her to within 5% of her hp now without either a) dying b) killing her. Needless to say this quest is the most frustrating and seemingly pointless one in the whole game. *skips it*
