I have noticed that you can get a lot of hits with a dagger. I think the golem I'm running gets somewhere around 35 at lvl 15, and he hasn't spent his stat points to see where he gets automatic racial bonus stats. From what I have noticed, the number of hits seems to be directly related to weapon weight. Because of the major effects of branding, I was wondering if it might be useful to somewhat reduce this hit rate for the very light weapons, or at least somewhat limit the size of the branding they get. Right now, I can do some very nasty damage without any dagger skill whatsoever, but that doesn't work at all for other weapons.
Anyway, I thought I'd mention it because I thought it might throw the weapon balance off from where you were expecting it to be.

Actually, getting tons of blows is the main feature of Dagger-type weapons! Without it, they would be very weak. Yes, it's true that branded daggers can get lots of blows, but you do have to find some good branded daggers. And keep in mind that brands are not THAT strong. They are in the beginning, but later, when the monsters will get tons of hp, and very high resistances, if you haven't placed any points in the skill at all, it may be less effective than you think. Let's just take the Clay Golem and the Stone Golem for example. Unless you find a good acid-branded dagger... do you really think brands will do that much damages?
So far, I tried a Kobold Rogue with dual daggers and Poison Weapon. I decided not to invest in Daggers, and instead use points for Agility and Dual Wield... big mistake!! He couldn't even kill a Skeleton!!

Could be. There really hasn't been the opportunity to get very far in yet, so it is hard to get a feel for later in the game, and you would certainly know a lot more about what that is like. I suppose items that give you a lot more blows will greatly affect the picture, too. I just thought I'd mention that it seemed like it could be an issue.

Daggers are a very nice early game item but lack a lot of punch in the later game from what I have found.
I will use a dagger in the beginning then when I get a good other kind of weapon I will use that one.
