I really like the fact that newAngband revives your character if you are killed. Considering how tough this version is, it is almost a necessity! Resurrecting plays nicely into a feature I have always hoped for but never seen anywhere: rather then starting as an undead, would it make sense that certain types of race undead status has a small chance of occurring if killed by the appropriate kind of undead? Want to be a vampire, get killed by a Master or greater level vampire and hope you come back as one. Same with wraiths and other types of greater undead nasties. For lower level undead, like skeletons or zombies your chance to become one could occur if you were killed, sensibly enough, by a necromancer or some such. Just thinking that since all undead were alive at some point, might be fun to be able to play the 'pre' life before the conversion took place...

Interesting idea. I would want some way to turn back again as well. Just in case I came back as an undead I didn't want or didn't want to be undead in the first place.

Hmm.. How do you un-un-dead? (In the Xanth series, a loved zombie slowly became human again. eww. And per some vampire legend lines, killing a master either frees or reverts to normal his thrall vampires. There was even an online comic where a vampire was reverted to human when he was bitten by a christian) But none of these seem practical in game terms. And if you open the door to reverting from undead, then it would follow that the enemy undead in the game could be returned to a living state as well, which could twonk the more powerful baddies. Then again, paladins can revert elite and boss undead to normal status, so it isn't that far fetched to allow them a special power to remove the curse of undeath as well. (heh. Would kind of suck. Paladin converts a level 90 vampire back into his regular 90th level living form, then realizes too late that his undead harming abilities are no longer of any use before being horrible eaten. bwa ha ha...) Eh, just a thought...

Hmmm... there would be quite a lot of options here! But sometimes, I feel this could become frustrating... Let's say you're making a themed character, a celestial paladin for instance... You fight a horde of undeads, and the suddently... poof! You die, and become a vampire! Now, that will probably screw up your character quite a bit, and would probably be frustrating...
Then again, that would make you actually fear vampires and such. And since I eventually want every monsters kinds to have their own abilities and characteristics, this could be the ability of Vampire monsters in a future version...
I'll think about it. It can be very fun, but it could also become frustrating at times...
