I’ve had this idea for quite some time. I don’t know if this would be technically possible to create, but I DO think that it would be much fun.
Well, we’ve all found ourselves in situations like this: there was a great dungeon level, many monsters, some even unique, even more excellent items, some even artifacts. However, we couldn’t get them all, couldn’t kill them all, for whatever reason. And so we were unfortunately forced to leave the level prematurely, items and monsters lost and never to be found again…
And so I propose: A Scroll of Remembrance (or something like this)
What does it do? Let’s say that we are in dungeon level 30. When we read this scroll, the level gets marked. After that, the important thing happens when we LEAVE the level: the entire level 30 is then saved. Every item, every monster, every corridor, room, and the general level geography is saved!
And so we have a remembered level 30 in our memory. We can do whatever now, but when we return to level 30 for the very first time, the level is loaded back! Every item and monster is still there!
This only happens once. After that, the memory is cleaned.
If we happen to read a Scroll of Remembrance while we have another level in our memory, the older one gets erased (forgotten) and the new one gets saved (remembered).
Oh, and the scroll should also be rather expensive, of course. I don’t know… about $50.000 or so?
What do you think?
Have fun! ;D

I think that is a good idea, so I am going to add to it. Instead of Remembrance how about *Word of Recall*. By doing it that way it can save the level as you recall out of it. It would also take another *Word of Recall* scroll to get back to that exact level.

Ha! I've been thinking about the same thing!!! We have scrolls of Identify and *Identify*, and similar to this, there could be scrolls of *Word of Recall*! But I think that one should need only ONE scroll, when recalling to town (and the level is saved). To return to the saved level, you should read a standard WoR scroll, or just use the stairs. The point is that the level should be saved unitl the VERY FIRST TIME you return to it, by whichever means. Anyway, I think this would be pretty cool if it could be realized... Have fun!

Hmmm... Well, it is technically possible, though I have yet to figure out a way to save the entire dungeon level, and regenerate it EXACTLY... that would be some hard work for sure. But the idea is nice, and allow you to return later to get the stuff you missed, or kill that boss that was invincible the first time around! I definitly like the idea, but coding this will be hard... you probably won't see this in the next version...

I don't think you would have to save the dungeon exactly as it is, but how about keeping every unique monster and every artifact and tweakable item. You can't expect the monsters to stand still or not pick any thing up off the floor while you are not there

I'll think about it... but as I said, don't expect to see this scroll in the next version... although this is definitly a fun idea!
