Boss's and Elites's shoudl have some kind of warning when they come onscreen. Either a graphical representation, like making them have a border like our character, or making a text warning when they enter vision/telepathy range.
Opinions? Comments?

That's a great idea!!! I totally agree.
The problem is that now you have to look (l) quite a lot if you want to avoid certain... ahem... *ACCIDENT* (hehehe). ;D
Perhaps there should be a little warning sign displayed in the lower left corner of the screen (there is still room for that). Or, when a boss/elite comes within view, a message could be displayed, like "You sense the presence of an elite monster" or something like that.

i thought of it cause, i think, that if you look at a mosnter, (i mean, like, if you are in the game and look at a pack of orcs.) then the boss, or leaders, or commanders, ro whatever, would stand out. Theyd have bigger muscles, or better armor, or the other creatures would defer to them... things like that. I just think that looking at one youd be able to tell, and maybe a graphical representation can help with taht.
(and with saving time having to look at ever mosnter, and invariably getting lazy)

Right. So perhaps it would really be best (as you already suggested) that those monsters would be "highlited" - the way you can highlite your character in options (a yellow square around the character). That way you really couldn't miss 'em...
Again, this is a *great* idea and I think it should be implemented in later versions...

preferably 1.7.1... to prevent any furhter accidnets.
I feel it is worth saying why i mad ethis topic. The tome message boards had a guy bost his thoughts on newangband, and he was a ibt upset with the fac the had to 'l'okk at everything. Hence, if this is unbalancing to the game, then please, make it a cheat option, or a regular option, so at least new players arent tossed right into the fray and end up losing so many characters taht way.

That guy was me. ;D I don't think this should be treated like a cheat (in fact you can 'l'ook at monsters) but will make playing less frustrating and you can concentrate on playing style rather than looking everywhere. Just my 2 cents.

It would be even more interesting if the ability to see (that is graphically, with a box around it or something) an elite/boss monster would come with certain items. Like "Ring of Detect Elite Monsters" and stuff like that. Some other items might have this property magically enchanted in them as well, like "It senses the presence of elite/boss monsters".
However, this is just an idea. I *know* that the whole program would have to be rewritten for that – including the resistance/property tables in the (C)haracter menu. And this is not really that important. For now, I only suggest that the above posts are taken into consideration…

Hmmm, well, it's an interesting idea, but implementing it won't be that easy, and with my new job and all, it would probably delay the release. Since many more critical bugs have been fixed(like the broken aura bug, or the unplayable vampire race...), I wish to release 1.7.1 soon. You can already look at monsters, so it's not that bad.

what exactly would you need to code to make this option work? I may be able to help.

Thanks for you help, but I don't really need it. It's not that the thing is too hard to code, it's just that I wanted to release 1.7.1 last weekend, and with my job and all, implenting this might have took some time(maybe not, but I didn't want to start something I wasn't sure to finish). I keep the idea in mind for the next release though...

I was wondering, aren't the Boss/Elite flags supposed to show up in the recall window? The regular monster info shows up fine, but if it's a boss/elite, I still have to look and use the recall button.

True, but you see, the code in the term doesn't exactly work the same way. It could be possible to do though... I'll think about it for the next release.
