I've been playing NewAngband for a few days and love
the variant. Classes are actually special and the new
stuff is great. I had a couple questions and
comments, though. First of all, could you please
describe the requirements and abilities for the
following classes:
1) Warrior Mage
2) Magi Warrior
3) Samurai
4) Assassin
5) Necromancer
6) Hunter
7) Leader
8) Commander
Second, I recently tried a paladin specializing in
leadership. Sometimes, when I tried using the
befriend command, I would not get the direction prompt
and my turn would end. Is this a bug?
Finally, I have a lot of ressurrected characters sitting in my save directory that I can't do anything with because they have no money. Before I go running around in the dungeon with no equipment, is it possible to go down to the level where the character died and recover the old equipment?
Now it's time for my two cents. First, let me make a
disclaimer. NewAngband is a great game and I give
massive props to Variaz. That said, I think the idea
of weapon durability does not work. It creates a
severe disadvantage for melee characters who already
have to deal with damage returning elites and bosses.
Also, other items like armor and bows do not have
durability.
One solution to this is to give all equipment a
durability rating. This solution is unworkable
because it forces the player to carry around tons of
repair x scrolls and forces him to constantly watch
his equipment. I think the only workable solution is
simply to make all weapons indestructible.
Thanks for the game,
