As of the latest download, using the 'X' button to close does not save, and does not warn that it won't do so.

And this is not a bug. I've found an extremely huge exploit in the previous versions. Here's what it was:
1. Have many blows(daggers works well here). 2. Attack a monster, then in the middle of your attack while the blows are being delivered, close the game using "X". 3. The game is saved, and when you reopen it, the monster will have lost hp. Repeat the process until the monster is dead, effectively preventing it from ever retaliating and guarantee you 100% chance of victory against any monsters in the game.
That's why I've changed that.

ugh... can you add a warning ala the existing abort? I keep losing progress because i forgot about it, and that was always how I quit.

That should be possible.

that is also exploitable....oooh...losing a battle? click 'x' and voila! you are back in the game so to speak (Not dead and sans items). Better would be to ensure that the game saves the complete combat state.

Well, you can already use the "Abort" command, so it's not much trouble. Even with the message that says "Can't abort while dying", you can just go in the save directory, make a backup, and reload that backup. You know, this game being scriptable and having lots of soft-code, cheating is not difficult at all. Besides, every games have cheats, so while I try to make sure major exploits are not possible(like the one I mentionned), I can't prevent all forms of cheating. Also, restarting a battle doesn't mean you'll win it the next time. Fighting a mature prismatic dragon at level 1, restart as many times as you want, you just won't win.
