I've noticed a bit of strange behavior when attacking anything hand-to-hand:
If the monster is immune to physical, physical combat feats like spin attack or accurate strike don't work; but normal blows will hit (I've noticed this with many races and nonmagic weapons.)
The second thing is that, if you have multiple blows, even if you're afraid - every swing after the first will be thrown - ie you're too afraid to attack the kobold, you swing, you swing, you swing, kobold dies.
These may not actually be bugs, but if they are, they seem to take away some of the decision making involved in fighting elites and bosses.

Make sure you download the latest combat.lua file in the announcements. The fact that you can hit physical immunes means you didn't download it!

Going down far enough in an Unknown dungeon on the map causes me to go back to the surface. Kinda annoying.

That just means you reached the bottom and came out on the other side.

I've noticed that I can use special attacks when afraid from elite/boss curse. I think I have resistance to fear, though, so I'm not sure if that affects it.

This is not really a bug, more the fact that the "U" abilities are not affected by fear, because they could be anything, not necessarily melee attacks. Of course, the individual melee attacks could be coded to not work with fear...
