This is possibly the most exploitable bug in history. I'm talking about a genuine Holy Crap!! kinda event here.
Anyone too weak-willed to resist using this bug should stop reading this now. I mean it.
Really.
Go somewhere and do something. Nobody will think any less of you.
Okay... you asked for it...
Put two identical pieces of armor in your Inventory. They must be of a type that is crafted from other armor (as opposed to just a pattern and a material), so a pair of Gloves won't work, but a pair of Gauntlets will.
For the purposes of this magic trick, we will use two sets of Mithril Gauntlets [8, +0]. Watch carefully.
Decompose one pair of Gauntlets. Now your Inventory contains a pair of Leather Gloves [2, +0], a pair of Mithril Gauntlets [8, +0], and an Ingot of Mithril.
Compose a pair of Mithril Gauntlets from the Gloves and Mithril.
"I'll have two pairs of Mithril Gauntlets," you say, confidently. "[8, +0], [8, +0]."
"Check your Inventory," I reply.
In your Inventory, you see a new pair of Mithril Gauntlets [8, +0]... and the old pair is [16, +0]!
"This must be some sort of trick," you say (to which I reply "Duh") and Decompose the [8, +0] pair back to the Gloves and Mithril again. Then you compose the Gauntlets again.
Mithril Gauntlets [8, +0]... and Mithril Gauntlets [33, +0]!
The base AC will roughly double every time, without fail. This appears to work for any armor type that you can Compose on your own from a lesser Armor.
Just goofing with this bug, I boosted a High Elven Cloak to a base AC of 4015. I'm sure it would have gone higher, but I figured that was already moronically high.
On a lark, I decided to enchant the Cloak and see what happened. As luck would have it, it became a Special item, and the AC tripled to 12,045. When I wear it, I believe my AC becomes a six-figure value, which the display can no longer fit. I'm just guessing at that, of course, but it was about 1400 before the miracle Cloak, and *shows* "169" when I wear it.
YOU'RE TRYING THIS, AREN'T YOU?!
