Branded weapons are great when the elite/boss is immune to physical because it still does the magic damage, however when the bad guys are immune to magic something seems to be broken. I understand that the baddie wouldn't take the brand damage (because it's magic), but shouldn't they still take the base damage? I'm fairly sure that I've hit magic immune elites with my branded mace, and not seen a single point come of their hit points. So once more, is this a bug or am I missing something? By the way... I handle magic immune dudes by jumping away from them, and turning them into pin cushions. Sometimes it takes a LOT of arrows. If I do run out, then I switch to missile (because it does partial physical damage, and because I don't have the physical element yet). Last annoying question for today, I swear

They should be immune to the brand, but not the actual blow. Can you try it again, and make sure the bug happens?

Well I ran across one small critter that was immune to magic, and he did die from my first weapon blow... however I'm not convinced yet because it was the first blow. I am pretty sure that I have seen the "you hit so 'n so. He is immune" and no damage came off when it was a bigger dude.
During the test though I did discover a "Counter Attack" bug. I was standing in a pack of small wolves that I had not yet hit. I pressed the (s)earch button repeatedly and saw the "you counter attack" message. Then I looked around and they were all unhurt. Acting on a hunch I took off my shield, and equipped a second weapon. Again I (s)earched repeatedly and the wolves started dropping like flies. The counter attack seems to be pointing the the secondary weapon for it's base damage calculation and was coming up 0 until I had a second weapon equipped.

OK I was right after all. I tested this with my lvl 12 elf rogue (well currently a paladin) who has a poison branded dagger. I am fighting a magic immune piranha, and have 10 blows per round. What seems to happen is that the physical damage works on the first hit, but then doesn't on any subsequent blows. I'm averaging about 7 blows that hit. If I connect on the first blow I've seen 1-4 damage as expected, but 0 on any other blows. If I miss on the first hit, none of the other hits do any damage either. This bug probably isn't to noticeable to folks because you can't see the hit points of bosses, and if you have a big weapon with only a couple of blows you miss it too. It's very obvious with branded daggers. Sorry Variaz, I know I've made your day with all these bugs

More bugs with second weapons too.... I don't even want to think what 0.3 will looks like with the new two-hands system... I hope it doesn't get bad to the point where Microsoft will try to hire me...

Guess what.... This bug is more widespread than I thought. It's not just bosses/elites with magic immunity, it's anything with an immunity to that particular brand. I just experienced the same deal with skeletons who are immune to poison (my weapon is poison branded). They get physical damage from the first blow only, then once the game decides that they are immune, no more damage (physical or magic) is taken.

Bug update... this is another one that acts differently with dual wielded weapons. Basically, the bug disappears with two weapons. I now see damage (consistent with the physical damage totals for the weapons) on each hit against a magic immune elite when I have two weapons. Don't know if this helps you track the problem or not.... but i figure more info never hurts.
