I thought I would leave a quick note about the effectiveness of my dwarf for the beta 3 release.
I have been running a dwarf for this release so far. Currently, he is about lvl 22, and is in the process of figuring out how to finish off the undead dungeon. Since he has advantages with defense and axe, I have specialized in those 2 areas. I don't remember exactly, but axe skill is about 27 and defense is about 15. With the armor he has, he currently is rarely damaged, and has only died twice, and both of those were probably avoidable.
The axe skill is just now becoming truly useful. Before this, I just didn't have a quality weapon, and I only recently got an item that increased the number of swings for that heavy a weapon. I expect that the effect of the axe will continue to improve significantly as the level increases.
I had been thinking of using throwing as a way for him to inflict damage at range. I did put a few points into it, but, at least at that level, the damage level, around 100pts per hit at 1 throw per round, is far too inadequate to be used. Since I just got the stats to change to elemental lord, I'll just use the elemental wave attack for ranged damage.
I don't have any useful thoughts about the effectiveness of the character for a late game scenario. It seems like he should be useful enough, but it is hard to be sure.

I finished up the ruins with this character with, I believe, 4 deaths. In general, he was either fully healthy or dead. It didn't seem like he would get slowly hacked to death. In any case, he had little difficulty in finishing the lich off, although some of his summoned minions were more problematic.
