I haven't taken any decisions about the races yet, though as far as monsters and normal classes goes, I probably won't put that in the next build. Extra powers for normal races is something I'll have to think about.

Well, Variaz, if I learn a bit of Lua in addition to the C++ knowledge I have, I'll probably mod Portralis to have classes with monsters myself >:]

My vote is no, I like the idea of monsters not having any particular profession or class... they seem to be better at just being "monsters".
At any rate, they are quite powerful enough without needing to specialize further.

Just a thought, but what about having special classes just for monsters? They can be unlocked by putting a certain number of ability points in various normal monster abilities. So there'd be a class for the different types of attacks (melee and magic and maybe ranged), a defense oriented one, and maybe something roguey as well.

Dow The best class we could add for a Monster-only class, however, would be a Possessor-type class. Not only would this be quite useful, it's also something that simply selecting the right kind of monster cannot do, as opposed to being a warrior/mage/rogue. So that would bring new possibilites to monsters, and fit perfectly with their gameplay. Possessing + Flow monsters = fun.

My vote was: Abstain. Too much to consider on either side.
Well, maybe allowing it for humanoid monsters might be mildly acceptable, as it is now, monsters play like possessors from tome... and being able to switch bodies functions like switching classes... Maybe we should just allow the reversion to prior forms? That would fix some of the versatility problems... Of course the lesser d and Greater D forms should still be a one way switch, as should 'u' to 'U'... but versatility could easily be fixed in that fashion. And probably be better then adding access to classes. Elementals could switch between there variants... and so forth.
Possessing plus flow monsters = fun? More like equals unstable (since they are random generated, wouldn't that create complications) and VERY abusive... maybe... corrupted nightmare bosses anyone?

The problem with reverting to prior forms is that this could allow some cheap switching for the sake of resistances. For example, going to fight a fire boss? Turn into red dragon! Oh, this boss' a cold one? Turn into white dragon! And so on... Obviously, their abilities wouldn't work against Nightmares. Anyway, that was just a random idea thrown in the mix, I have no plans for it at the moment.

Monsters already have classes, they evolve into other versions of the monster. There is definately no need to make them able to also use the class abilities.
In my opinion, monsters are also highly customizable with the way essenses work. I for example carry an essense in my inventory that gives +75 martial arts, and I switch that in place of a +70 spell craft essense when I want to melee. There are no levelable essenses, but at deep enough levels, you can get more tweak points on an essense than you can from leveling your items.
