Ya, I have to agree with Variaz.
Also, it isn't always about sheer damage potential. I mean, that is what melee guys are good at. Of course they are the best at taking down the biggest enemy in the shortest time. It is what they do.
Casters (both mana and wis) are better at crowd control, and utility abilities. Aint nothing like a radius 4 chain spell to clear out a room, and what about all those boost stats spells? woo ya. With those, a caster can dabble in melee, or a hybrid melee/caster can be VERY powerful in melee for short bursts. That is what casters are good at. It might take them 10 rounds to kill the super boss, but they killed all the minions on round 1. The melee guy might have the super boss dead in 3 rounds, but they then have to mop up all the little dudes one at a time *snore*

I'll try a melee character with new enchan ter class, because my previous melee characters do even less damage then wis-casters . Of course it was wrong builds (I don't use atack abilities and combat feats because can't decide which of them best), but now I still think best damage potential have Firearms, not melee weapons. Of course - IMHO.

Oh, it's very strong. I've got a new character at level 15 right now, she's a Craftswoman/Spearmaiden, and with a 3d10 halberd and about 42 Polearms skill, she does about 4000-50000 per blows if I remember correctly.
