I have to admit, one of the things that I liked about Portralis was that it was kind of the Disgaea of Roguelikes. The game scales numerically over about six orders of magnitude of power, and it manages to do so with actual new content at (most of) these new scales of power rather than just the numbers getting bigger (e.g. you go from main quest stuff to Flow, Nightmares, etc). So without saying anything particular about story or whatever, that appears to me to be the really unique thing about Portralis compared to other roguelikes I've played.

Its been many a moon since I checked in. Te4 would be a great fit for Portralis and how fitting that Port and Tome have such similar antecedents and while having paralleled in someways are equally unique experiences. I look forward to seeing what comes of that idea.

I it was kind of the Disgaea of Roguelikes. Funny you mention this game! It was actually my inspiration for the Flow item enhancements, which was based on Disgaea's Item World. It must have been more than a year now since I've worked on Portralis at all... still haven't resumed the work. It's good to see that some peoples still come here though.

This should tell you how deeply people cared about the world you were creating. I check back here every few weeks or so to see if anythings been done. When Portralis comes back, under whatever name, be it standalone program, or built for T-Engine, I'll be here to jump right back in. I won't be alone either. ;D

Portralis (and NewAngband before it) has always been an enjoyable *Band variant, with a unique view of many game aspects. I have been not playing this sort of game for a couple years, and therefore not familiar with the current release of Portralis. I look forward to playing it again soon though, and hope that it will continue to survive and thrive.

I still check in from time to time, too. I'd definitely like to see this come back some day.

It has been a long (long long) while since this was last updated and I am hoping Variaz has some good news for us about the game. I enjoyed very much being involved in some of the creative aspects of testing the game and wish it were still being actively worked on. I really do think it has strong potential. Now that Tome4 is on steam, I wonder about the viability of creating a T-engine version....

Hey Gando! Long time no see. I still check the forum once in a while, but right now, I am no longer working on the game. In fact, I haven't even played in a very long time... or any other *band for that matter. I know how you feel. I too really enjoyed working on the game, but a combination of factor(most of which I have described in the various posts of this thread) had me eventually lose interest. I'm not sure of the future of this game. It's hard for me to let it go, but it's a fact that right now, my interest for the game is no longer there. In fact, I'm not really into Angband at all anymore. So, either resuming the work, or start a T-engine project doesn't seem like something I will do in the short term. I don't want to declare the game dead, as who knows, maybe my interest will come back eventually. But after several years of never developing the story past the second town...let's just say that things aren't looking too good, the motivation just isn't there. (especially to restart the project from scratch on a new engine...) I hope motivation will return eventually, but right now, I can't promise anything. But still, I'm glad to see that some peoples still shows interest. And no matter what happens, your contribution was very appreciated, and I thanks you a lot for everything you've done.

Well that's too bad to hear. Portralis was always one of my favorite Roguelikes in terms of mechancis. I kind of enjoyed it more than ToME for a while its too bad it didnt get more attention. Having such a deep amount of control and variety on your character really appealed to me. T-Engine could be a good idea, if you ever do decide to work on Portralis again.

Hey, just stopping by to see if anything had developed. Disappointing to see nothing new or promising, but I understand - I too cycle through my interests in gaming, and roguelikes and *bands are often out of phase.
As others have said, this was a very unique and interesting experience, and I'd sure like to see it come back under active development. I'd even be willing to do occasional donations, like they have over at Chaosforge, if that would help to provide incentive.

More then two years later, and I'm still the most recent post... just thinking of Portralis again, and wanted to play it and see if anything new had happened. I really liked the story, and I'd still like to learn the rest of it some day. Variaz, if you ever check back here, would you mind letting us know what you're currently working on, if anything? If I can't have Portralis, I'd like something by the same creator

Years pass... I still hope the game will return one day.
Variaz, have you got any idea for the future?
