Another thing that seems poorly done is the conflicting use of symbols for different things. Most particularly ~ is used for chests, water, deep water, essences, music components, licialhyds, and other material components. Essences are the same color as water and so this gets quite confusing. Perhaps assign some other characters/colors to some of these? My preference for essences for example would be ^ dark green (approximately #007700 or so). It would also be nice if the player could change these things via the interface menus (= etc).

Case in point for needing documentation...went to do the SV side quest for find them a new HQ and got lost. Somehow ended up ahead of the storyline at 43,40 and broke it. As many times as Ive done this it isn't 100% easy to remember. A quest log would help keep things straight.

Basically this happens (has happened before to me) because I miss the taunting note between the location note and the other note. Very easy to miss.

Is it possible to turn off potions, magic/cursed/etc chests that are unopenable to monsters, when playing one? Will decrease the inordinate amount of garbage lying about in the dungeons. Or better yet make Lockpicking a skill independent of the rogue class.

Flying seems to be a staple ability now because it is absolutely mandatory for later quests. Which means it should be available in some form to monster characters. At least in the form of an Essence ability or special effect. Maybe add it to the list of (e) abilities on the ability menu alongside Telepathy and Regeneration and make it cost something like 5 points. Considering most characters can at the minimum equip Rings or Armor to give them the ability this seems fair.
I also recommend making a different menu list for Essences to take into account the different needs that monsters have from normal adventuring races. Then Flying could be on this list while not giving everyone else a shortcut to it.
Just realized monsters all seem to have this ability thought here is no way to tell that until you actually move over a mountain tile.

Not quite sure what the point of having a physical attack (bite/claw) ability is in the (U) menu. The special attack ALWAYS misses compared to just pressing an arrow button. I imagine if it connected it would still not be as good as just swinging multiple times that a claw attack normal gets with (<-- and -->)

I imagine if it connected it would still not be as good as just swinging multiple times that a claw attack normal gets with (<-- and -->) They don't always miss, they have the same chance to hit as other melee attacks. They are meant to be used as combat feats. Without that, you get the impression that they miss more, because there's only one attack, as opposed to the many attacks you get using the arrows. (less miss chance if you have more blows, obviously) You can put ability points in those attacks too, and then they become as powerful as other combat feats abilities. The purpose is to give monsters something to use with the Combat Feats skill. However, if you don't use it, then no, they aren't that useful.

The purpose is to give monsters something to use with the Combat Feats skill. However, if you don't use it, then no, they aren't that useful. Seems like a bad feedback loop. I don't use them because they are terrible. Not just bad but horrible. So of course I don't put good points towards bad....which means they just get worse over time. If they had some promise to be good that might encourage their use. I don't see how combat feats would help as they would still ALWAYS miss. I know you say they don't but the fact is they do. Particularly once you start seeing above beginner level monsters. But I will take it for granted that you must be right anyway and still its not tempting. So they might work once in a blue moon with a combat feet, the effects are no better than just swinging... Maybe it is an ALL-IN option. (Either you pump the ability alot which locks in a lot of AP and Skillpoints that can't be used for clearly good abilities/skills or you don't put anything in them because they won't reward half steps.)

Of course, they COULD be bugged... I don't think they are, but I could definitely double-check.
EDIT: Well, seems like they aren't. I've tried a Skeleton Warrior with a sword, some points in Swords skill, a few items(not many, and nothing great), then went down to depth 55 against a CR2 Storm Giant, and was able to hit it using the "Broad Sword" ability from the "U" menu. Ok, so it has low Evasion, but it's great strength gives it a good chance to block melee attacks, so it's a good test.

Try it with a naked attack like claw/bite.

Check my latest post in the General messages.
For now, I am not working on it. I cannot say when I will resume the work.
Don't worry, I will not let this game die. But I can't say when I will resume the work.
