Haven't played for a while, but downloaded the latest version. Tried to startup and got the following message: Error. No town monsters and the program closed down. Any suggestions.

Are all ranged weapons broken or just the light crossbows? They do no damage and generate all manner of error messages when you look at your character screen.

I just picked up a light crossbow on my character and it seems to be working normally.

I managed to damage a physical immune skeleton warrior with an ice weapon. With the skeleton's cold immunity, I would figure this doesn't work. Edit: Well, I try talking to one of the stealthy vipers with my devling character, to see what would happen. They turned hostile, and.... started casting poison bolts at the nearby slums kobolds?

I've sorted out my previous problem, for some reason when I installed, a file got left out. However, I am having a similar problem with ranged weapons to Grrraaaa. Using any sort of bow or crossbow I get error messages (ranged.lua:764 stack traceback compare with init.lua in function notify event hook...) and in the character screen shows 0 damages. I am using a windows vista machine temporarly and wondered if this might cause a problem.

Got another problem now - can't get reincarnation to work. Instead of going to limbo, I see the graveyard screen - very annoying!

Strange bugs... Can you send your savefile? So if it will works on my system we will know the problem is in your system, not in the Portralis itself.

OK, sorted out the ranged problems. In ranged.lua, there are 3 places where you have a variable stealthbonus declared, change those lines from: local stealthbonus to local stealthbonus = 0. Also limbo does work for me. I was trying to commit suicide to experiment, but if you ctrl-q that goes directly through gravestone. Is there anyway of getting to Limbo without finding a monster to kill you?

If not then it should replicate final death. Final Death should allow you to load the character so as to get the dump if nothing else. Or barring that the game should dump the file one last time so that you can at least show others your folly.

Another ranged problem. Magic Immune elites/bosses also seem to be immune to ranged. Seems to be a problem in elements.lua. I got around it by changing line 661 by using 'and not' rather than ~=.

Thanks for the posts.
Yes, the suicide doesn't send to limbo. This is something to be fixed.

I tried a celestial bard. My healing songs made the town guards angry! Townsfolk left untouched, but the guards (p) get angered and fade away. There was no alignment drop. Piercing sound has no effect on them.
