I'm using the counter spell ability in lieu of magic defense. Right now I have no way to fight against magic returning enemies. Hitting them with a rod isn't going to work, I'm doing too little damage and missing a lot as well.I'm also rather clueless as to what else I might get other than counter spell.
I'm pretty strong right now though. with 2 zaps of ~8000 a turn, both radius of 2 for free is working out pretty well.
The agility is so I can BRAVELY RUN AWAY from melee enemies with a 3 panel jump.
If I reincarnate, I was thinking of either putting points into elemental or just spell craft (the humans 25% bonus stacked on the 33% bonus on high mage compared to the 25% bonus in specific skills could make it almost as strong in sheer power and a lot more versatile) and dumping ability points into magic blood - with 10 points in it I could be regaining 100 sp per turn..... I'd imagine 100 sp bolt spells are pretty darn powerful. physical spells could deal with magic returners quite nicely.
On second thought, it might be possible to just start doing this on top of what I have. Getting the rods skill to 70 would increase the bonus damage from rods by 210% as well as the feat it gives. The free zap spells also would let me get something other than magic blood since I have something to fall back on... increased mana, or Empower spells (especially if that'll increase rod damages too) sound good for making huge nuke spells
okay, maybe I do have some clue....
