I just ran into one of these with 750mil hp and 4 lives...it nearly one hit me with a single spell at 1mil hp through 50 md + resistances. Is there ANY way to survive this other than get the heck out of there? (Which I did via shadow blink.)
I forgot to mention this was on level 42 of a random dungeon.

Same dungeon (level 43 in fact), boss level, boss is a monster that teleports when it takes damage has 18mil life x4 lives...and never takes more than the minimal hit if I swing at it (it takes the magic damage from my brand and warps away before the phys damage hits)...seems to me it should at least wait for me to finish my attacks before teleporting. Otherwise it is impossible to kill. Could be stuck doing this forever...literally since there is no way out.

Another thing I noticed (same boss) is that when I hit it with Iajutsu it heals rather than takes damage..so my attack adds to its life not subtracts from it. Incredibly unfair imho. Though sometimes the attack just registers but doesn't do any healing or damage. (Monsters's health does not change at all.) But it does teleport after such a hit.

Proof that the Iajutsu is broken is: Finally got him to 600k health (via a power 98 chaos spell) and he hit me with his tail provoking the Iajutsu...the game says he took 1.9 mil damage but he didn't lose a life nor did his hp total change at all.

Also tried switching the Iajutsu off so it wouldn't teleport away from me by reversing which item I have equipped in the A) slot but that didn't work. Apparently Iajutsu still functions (or not) from the B) slot.

Fused Warriors should only start appearing at 52 I think. Though you could be unlucky and meet an out-of-depth monster... It's not impossible. Anyway, the Fused Warriors hits pretty hard, have double spells as well as an elemental aura. So Magic Defense is very useful to have. If you're melee, a good trick is to use "hit and run" tactic. You need 5 combat feats, and the idea is to attack the monster, and on the last blow, Jump away. Since it's melee attacks are really powerful, it's a good strategy to use. It actually works well against many enemies. Another thing to consider is that his aura only activates after he moves. If he doesn't move, his aura won't activate, so if you can take his melee attacks(have high AC, blocking, etc...) better than his spells, this could be an option.

Sounds like a bug, healing is definitely not intended.

I've found elite version of this guy on level 45. There wasn't vaults on this level, so something is wrong with him.

There's always a small chance to encounter an out-of-depth enemy.

I had to run from a Boss Fused Warrior of Wind, but that was several levels ago. The regular and elite ones are difficult, but not ultra-difficult, imho, especially with the proper resistances. I just power-punch them (I'm playing an unarmed Greater Mud Elemental, and did fine against them with a regular Mud Elemental) and that usually takes off a life per punch with Dragons Fists and a fairly high martial arts level.
In fairness, I must concede that it doesn't hurt that I'm immune to Fire and Earth when facing Fused Warriors of those particular elements. Plus 50% physical and Paragon skills of Half Damages, Double Damages, and 50% return. Not sure how I'd do with a less "tough" character.

*thinks that playing the game as a monster does not really address the balance issues since monsters are so much more powerful than players with raw stats.*

*thinks that playing the game as a monster does not really address the balance issues since monsters are so much more powerful than players with raw stats.* I agree to some extent, though the drawbacks of playing a monster are extensive enough that I don't know if I'd call it a balance issue. I really miss access to the specialized skills of the class system, for one, and if I'm playing Essence monsters, I really miss the powerful equipment that regular characters can wear. It takes a while to get some of the better essences, and I think even those rarely as powerful as a really good blue item in the long run, especially if you rely on melee attacks and branding) I've also noted that only some evolutionary paths are really all that powerful. Mud Elementals work for me, as you can tell. But there are just as many that only go so far before I reach a point where I'm struggling to level against more powerful opponents and seeing the next stage of evolution being almost out-of-reach. At that point, the flexibility of the class system is invaluable.

Afaik the monster system was set up to play test the power of monsters more than be a viable alternative to players. Then Variaz fixed it to be more playable but seriously it is something entirely different and changes the nature of the game. I'd say enjoy it for what it is.

I do enjoy it for what it is, even if I keep seeing lots of little logical tweaks that make it slightly unrealistic. I don't bother much about the nature of the game since all character options provide unique opportunities to develop.

The Monster race isn't balanced, and will never be. While all monsters should be playable(at least for the main content), they are not equal. Mature Prismatic Dragon is much stronger than Fruit Bat. Even amongst the low level monsters, the Young Angel is a lot better than Fruit Bat. Everything is better than it, due to resistances, elemental attacks, spells or at the very least, some good evolution options. I use Fruit Bat because someone, Frumple I think, actually tried one before! And, let's face it, Bat is pretty much the worst kind of monster, though Ants probably share the bottom of the barrel as well. Even rats have the Vapor Rat, which is at least descent, and worms have descent evolutions too.
