In 007, there's a new area at 48,51 that offers a whole new way of empowering your items while giving you the chance of exploring totally random dungeons(and I mean RANDOM....and insane too! ;D). So, in order to activate the whole thing, it's simple:
1. Find the switch in the water altar.
2. Do a small depth 15-20 dungeon.
3. At the bottom of the dungeon, there's a machine, along with a switch to activate it. Do so.
4. Return to the surface.
You're now ready to begin. To open the portal to the Flow, you need two licialhyds, along with the item you want to enter in. The two licialhyds' values must total or exceed the item's, or it won't work. Also, if the item is magical, the two licialhyds will break, unless they're nightmare licialhyds. If you did it correctly, your item will disappear, and you'll be able to enter a portal. Do so, and.... prepare for an insane dungeon! ;D
You'll arrive in a dungeon that is completely messed up, and full of randomly generated monsters. The dungeon's level will be equal to the item's depth, and can be higher if the item was magical. The more bonus the item gives, the deeper the depth will start(for example, entering an iron long sword will bring you at a depth 10 dungeon). The monsters are always regenerated on each level, and are proportional to the dungeon's depth. Their abilities are all randomly chosen. You'll notice there are many vaults, and this is intended. In vaults, both normal enemies and random ones can show up.
There are no stairs in this dungeon. Instead, random portals are placed on randomly chosen floor grids. When entering a portal, you'll increase the dungeon level by 2, and a new level is generated. There are many types of portals, and depending on which one you choose, it will have a different effect on the original item you entered it. The portals are:
Portal of Power: Increase to_h, to_d, base damages, shooter multiplier of ranged weapons, brands, potions and crystals powers.
Portal of The Shield: Increase base AC, to_a.
Portal of Skill: Adds 2 tweak points to the item.
Portal of Resistance: Gives a random resistance of 5% to the item. You won't get Physical or Mana however.
Each time you enter a portal, there is a chance that you'll enter a special level. There are interesting things in them, though you could also have to face a random boss. I'll let you discover them. (more will come in future builds)
After a while, you'll eventually find a level full of Final Portals. This is it, you've reached the end of this item's dungeon. The number of levels you have to finish depends on the item, but the higher the starting depth, the more levels you'll have to explore. It's also random, so for equal depth, some items will take longer(but will be stronger in the end).
Enter the Final Portal to face the item's boss. Because it's randomly generated, it can be tough. But if you defeat it, you'll be brought outside the dungeon, in the old church. The item will lie on the ground. It will have a new color, and will have increased attributes and/or tweak points, based on the portals you visited. Once you've done it once, an item cannot be reentered. Congratulations, you've earned your first Indigo item!
FAQ:
Q: What items can I enter?
A: Any. Even a gold coin, even a monster's corpse. Of course, it's useless to enter useless items, but if you just want a dungeon, it can be fun.
Q: What about Essences?
A: Yes, you can enter them. However, despite them having a depth of 1, the monster's depth is used instead as the starting depth, and then increased by the essence's stats. So it can actually be difficult to alter essences through the Flow.
Q: Crafted items?
A: Yup, you can enter and enhance them. They will stay orange, however.
Q: If I die or recall, what happens?
A: This is the main danger of the Flow. If you die or recall, you'll lose your item. You cannot recall back in there, so be careful! It's best to experiment with some non-magical items first to familiarize yourself with the RNG's madness, and then once you think you're ready, enter magical items.
Q: Err...I want to try an expensive item, but...I can't get licialhyds that are THAT valuable.
A: There will come a point where you can't buy licialhyds valuable enough. However, Nightmare Licialhyds are now worth a lot of money, so by defeating a high rank nightmare, it's licialhyd can be used for entering items. Don't worry, it will not shatter. (Good luck obtaining it in the first place though! )
Q: What about nightmare horrors?
A: Nightmares can appear in the Flow, so be careful about carrying reds! They aren't randomly generated, and are as cheap and uber as usual. ;D
Q: Err...ok, I just met a pack of 20 ghosts that had like 3 lives, +80 speed, 3 spells/round, and they started spamming "Summon Phoenix of Solar Flames (num: 15)".... My artifact is lost....
A: Looks like the RNG really hates you. ;D
Based on my own experience, it's more difficult so far than normal dungeons, since all enemies you'll meet are scaled to match the dungeon level, so you don't really meet weak enemies. And enemies of depths 1 to 39 are much stronger overall. Better prepare yourself and eternalize some blue items before you go!
Well have fun, and good luck! It's what it's all about after all! It has a lot of potential for obtaining powerful items, so if you use it well, you'll be well rewarded.
