Ive been playing with the gunner class with the idea that I should at least try every class in the game. It seems to me that while being able to kill things from afar is not a bad idea, you often will end up in situations where you can not get away and you can not kill the enemy. Doesnt matter what your stats are really...Gunners/Marksmen just do not do all that much damage...
Now let me say if they did as many attacks per round as say a dual weilding dagger weilder their damage would be insane...but since they get one shot (or 6 I guess if you use fanning shot) that shot better count for a comparable 20-30 attacks by a dagger weilder.
My gunner current does about 14k on average (according to the numbers 3kmin 25kmax) which should kill just about anything at my leve (12)l...but rarely do I one hit kill any elite or boss. Even with Point blank shot which is extremely dangerous Im not doing more than a few k at most. Physical Immunes are the total nightmare of course...even with burning shot they just do not die.
I am not saying Gunner is an impossibly weak class but I think it could stand a boost in damage...say attacks per round? The only drawback to this idea is that youd run out of ammo even faster which leads to the problem of having to carry around 100lbs of ammo just to survive the average dungeon. Thankfully ammo isnt out of the range of my pocket or Id be up the creek.
Now Im not certain that it isnt my character build (agi 40 firearms 50 dex 33 con 10 the rest at normal range) but I think that it isnt...The other classes Ive played lately have been uber by comparison including the sort of gimpy Elemental Lord build I made yesterday.

If you want more shots per round, then get your base shooting up to 40 so you can get quick shots.

Either that or the game needs to be readjusted so that all the classes suffer the same difficulty.

What level are you? And what gun are you using? Level 12 I believe and the copper pistol from Jindar...(its the affordable one...)

Level 12?
Isn't that a bit early to judge an entire fighting style?

Dont be offended by my remarks...they arent meant to insult your class...I just am giving my observations and I have played this game long enough to know when something works and when it doesnt. If you feel my observations are incorrect that is your perrogative. And what you do about them is ALSO your perrogative. I can only give you the input. As far as I can tell Gunner is NOT a fun class to play. The reason being that it does not deal enough damage to be competant at WHATEVER level it is. Take that however you like. Its my opinion. I am sure there will be those who disagree...indeed I count on some to disagree because its me saying it. But I have reasons and they are not out of the blue. I mentioned to you a while ago that Gunners were underpowered and you mentioned something about maybe looking into it at some time. It is possible that I just dont like the way ranged combat works in Portralis and never will so disregard my comments if you feel this is the case. On the other hand maybe what I am saying is valid despite the low level of THIS character.

about 70 millions highest damage with missile element at level 34 (nobody immune, nobody dodge or block my True Shot and nobody reflects damage) with Twin-Cannon Dragon Rifle and adamantite rounds (they are costly though, so with mithril rounds i have 24 millions damage). Well, maybe melee has more power, but i don't need to see what abilities this boss\elite have - just pull the trigger, run through wall, reload, go again.

Way to necro a dead topic :/ Indeed. Almost a year old! More importantly, melee has more blows. To get Missile as the damages type, you probably placed 10 points in Enhance Ranged Weapon, and used the 3rd enhancement. This means you'll only get one shot out of the gun, then you must reload. So while it's powerful in it's own right, I'm not sure it's broken, because in the end, the monster only loses one life, and you have to reload which gives monsters an opportunity. Shots for blows, ranged is actually stronger than melee, especially with firearms. Melee, however, has many blows, which helps when monsters have many lives.

Yes, I'm sure it isn't broken because this character still can't storm Flow. About shots - Dragon rifle is best rifle i can create - and it has to be reloaded after each shot, so extra shots are useless. Automatic rifle will have more shots without any enchantment, so it will be fine.

Nevermind the bosses (have you fought a special room boss in the flow?? Disgusting.)

Special room bosses wasn't problem - they have not enough lives and HP. Usually i can get to the portal on levels up to my character level*2. Sometimes they instakill me, but that is rare. Final bosses are crazy though. The only thing that can help against final bosses is their summoning and teleportation spells. Without them they are killing me very-very fast.

We clearly have vastly different play styles (Are we even playing the same game? Sometimes it seems not). The Special Room bosses have proven to be MUCH harder than the average flow monster being as much 30-40 levels higher than the character. Or maybe that only happens if you hit certain depths, but I have encountered them 3 levels deep into an item (usually level 18 or higher total.)
