I was playing the latest build and I got to where the temple transforms into the fortress. I didn't think I was strong enough to do it yet though so I decided to do the Viper's quests. When I got to the fourth quest I found out that entrance to James Harris's house had disappeared. Simply copying the entry for his house from t102.txt (normal map), to t120 (evil temple) seems to have fixed it.
EDIT
Had to also add the entrance to the quest. Now I can get there, but when I kill the kobold ghost, I get a black screen with a cursor in the bottom-left corner after the page where he mentions Krind seeing my potential. I checked the code and the dialogs are miss numbered. Switching the pointer to the next dialog to 6 instead of 5 fixes things.

Please unweil the secret of this bug-fix!

Well, I think challtdow pretty much unveiled it, didn't he? The town files are in the edit directory. The dialogues are in the file directory. It's d1050.txt.
Then, apply the changes challtdow mentionned, and that should fix it!

I agree with T10. This is the first time I've actually played through this much of the Viper quests, and they are great.

I used a Scroll of Item Leveling on a brass lantern, and spent the first point on permanent light (radius 5). The problem is that when the lantern runs out of fuel, even the permanent light dies.

Very minor bug - possibly just a help text error:
The Defense skill is described in the help text as multiplying your Base AC by 20%, the actual value used in the game however is 33%.

Oh yeah, one other fairly minor spell issue:
The Summon Type spell can be used to:
Type: p Power: 0 Number: <a bazillion> Duration: <forever> Cost: 0
This free-cast spell will summon a huge number of friendly Lvl 16 Jindar Guards with 5k hp a pop. They can't hit the broadside of a barn, but they make for a fairly epic meat shield on demand, at least at low levels.
Not sure if this is the intended behavior of the spell.

Found a more serious bug.
Every time I kill the Kobold ghost under the Jindar Graveyard, the main terminal seems to lock up with the text 'Dragon Lancer Member' displayed in the upper left corner and a selection cursor in the lower left corner. The rest of the terminal is completely blank and it doesn't respond to any keyboard input.
The terminal window shell is still active (you can change fonts and the like), but that's it.

Lets see, here's one that makes my life easier:
I've never taken physical returning damage from anything since I started .3-002
Magic returning against ranged spells seems to work - though my celestial doesn't care, it does it least indicate that I'm being blasted.
But my current enchanter/defender type just wades through everything without a care in the world. Neither his weapon brands, nor his straight weapon damage (which would kill him 10 times over in a single hit) ever seem to return on him.

Here's a fun one.
Get your crafter up to decent levels, then craft yourself a set of pure Charisma gear to bump your charisma up to 200 or so.
Then go buy Magic Item scrolls at a rare items shop. They'll cost you about 5k, and then sell them back for 25k a pop. Recycle indefinitely.
I haven't experimented to figure out at what point Charisma reaches a point of positive returns on the buy/sell transaction, but 200 definitely does it.

You're actually right! But most likely I wanted to upgrade Defense, but did not update the help file. The help needs a major update. Oh yeah, one other fairly minor spell issue:

Not sure if this is the intended behavior of the spell. Oversight. I'll have to fix it though, because the problem only gets "worse" in the upcoming release, with the Ivhalian Defenders being much tougher than the Jindar Soldiers. I might make it so that the power must be at least 1 for the spell to be created. Seems like the dialog occurs... hmmm, could it be a bug in the dialog file, where it points to a non-existing dialog option? I'll have to check it out... Known bug. Brands aren't supposed to be returned though. Yeah, Charisma is kind of very effective at high levels, though I kind of have problems figuring out how to "fix" it. It don't want to do like 99% of other RPGs and make Charisma a useless dump stat either. That Charisma is useful is a good thing by itself, though I guess a Crafter can easily abuse it. On the other hand, Black Market doesn't have items of level 40 or higher, and the rare items shops will not go above Mithril in terms of quality. The expensive Magic Item and Item Leveling scrolls are useless for a Crafter, and for other characters, by the time they get to the point where they can buy mithril for almost free at the rare items shops, money is hardly a problem at this point. So I might not "fix" this one. Charisma will continue to provide huge discounts at high levels, give your monsters much more power and unlock some special dialog options that can, in turn, unlock artifacts and make quests easier. Charisma will continue to be a good stat, thus making Portralis different from 99% other RPGs in that aspect.

Alas, I haven't gotten to the point of cracking open the portralis source to look at stuff like this directly, but I am fairly experienced at reverse engineering game-play formulae and finding ways to tweak them. If I get a chance I'll take a look at the shop cost/charisma code and see if there is some straightforward solution that has no effect on the other game elements you are talking about - I agree that it is nice to have a game where CHA isn't a dump stat! I also agree it's not that big a deal, as money doesn't mean too much by the time you get to the point of being able to execute this particular exploit as a crafter.

I have a great power 0 spell too. I call it "Bring the light". A great radius power 0 light ball or aura spell gives light all around bud doesn't harm allies. I found it usefull. May you let the p0 spells existant for this?
