Vote and comment! Note that I did not include the Monster race, seeing as it's a completely different gameplay.

Seeing as I tend to play melee-heavy characters, I likes Zulgor most often. Their massive strength is very useful for beating on enemies with whatever is in hand. That everything (even brands) is converted to Chaos can be a drag once in a while, but it is always boosted 25% as well, and very few creatures resist it. Being immune to Chaos does leave me free to blast away with impunity, but balls of it do destroy items (I use some relatively minor WIS-casting for support and ranged attacks). I did have fun playing a Celestial in a similar style, but had a very bad habit of getting insta-killed by anything casting Darkness spells.

Which race is best? Not sure. Really thats a tough question, as all have advantages and disadvantages that set them apart from the others. Celestial just appeals most to my rpg senses Its kind of neat to roleplay a character with divine or semi divine origins that has to make it in the "real world".

I tend to like to play dwarves since they make nice tanks. They probably aren't as powerful as Zulgors, but I like them. With the current adjustments to alchemy and crafting, gnomes seem intriguing, and humans are always useful.

I thought about it and I just couldn't decide. I have ideas for so many characters for all of the races.
human: enchanter/summonner half elf: martial artist elf: magic bowman dwarf: super crafting melee monster gnome: grenadier (explosive potion master) kobold: poison lord, dagger master devling: high agility monk/spearman demon: shadow stalker celestial: nova, martial artist of light, light lord, super wis caster zulgor: extreme fighter/chaos lord
so, I am not comfortable choosing just one race as my favorite

Celestial even not because bonuses but because their background - I always like to play for light and against balance. And bonuses of course nice if my character need wis-spellcasting

I'll vote to my poll too! I voted for Humans, because for some reasons, I almost always play Humans. Bonus to intelligence is always helpful, so are extra skill points, Crafting/Alchemy is actually a great bonus now and what drawbacks do you have for selecting human? None. You get all these nice bonuses for free.

Tough call. I went with demon. My best character to date was a demon paladin. The immunity to darkness was awesome for the fidac dungeon at the very least, wheareas light casting enemies are pretty rare. I'm liking the dwarf, and have played with celestials, zulgors, and humans. I want to do a devling dex based polearm user, but haven't done so yet. I kind of want to play a demon one and try for a dark branded weapon with dark base damage, Because it would be fun on everything BUT undead, and I can cart around one light branded weapon instead. Celestial light branded could work too. Zulgors with anything also works, since it's all chaos anyways.

Note that I did not include the Monster race... Rats. I really was looking to vote '*' because Mirror Balls rock. ;D That being said, gotta join the celestial crowd. Being immune to your primary attack form means never having to say you're sorry when you fire radius 30 balls all over the place, as well as providing a convenient source of illumination. Demons would be just as cool, except that I like wis casting, and you can find darkness books everywhere. Haven't seen a light book yet.

I like humans as they tend to be the most balanced in my opinion.

I love kobolds both for the challenge, and for the RP. Kobolds have always been a favorite of mine, often just for the sheer underdogness (can that even be a word?), but with more personality than goblins.

Well, since this thread has already been resurrected once, I figure I can throw my 2 cents in now that I've experimented a little. Since the monster race hasn't been included (mud elementals, nagas and vampire sorts rock, especially the first two for the combination of equipment and essence slots,) I'll have to say that I vote for zulgors -- they're pretty neat. The complaint about conversion to chaos is actually one of my favorite things about playing a zulgor...with Light of Life. All those light-resistant creatures go bye-bye just as easily as the rest. With lots of hp, a strong martial arts background and a high Jump range (I only just discovered I can jump through walls if I'd seen the spot before,) there are very few things a strong zulgor character can't deal with....so far. I had an unfortunate encounter with a boss mature dragon that didn't go well for me at all, heh. Also, since zulgors resist chaos as celestials resist light, I never have to worry about reflected damages.

It's more of a feature than a drawback really. Since chaos is hardly ever resisted, it's often a good thing, since any elemental attacks that aren't physical turns into chaos. That includes Ice Swords, and yes, Light of Life, and other abilities too. Ice Swords are really nice with zulgors, as they are Chaos Swords! On the other hand, it's a drawback agaisnt enemies that resists chaos(of which there aren't many, but they're main quest bosses!), because you need to use Physical, which kind of destroy certain builds, such as a Light of Life build. Elemental mages can also have trouble(though they can use the Physical element). Undeads, while chaos hurts them, Light would be better.

I haven't yet encountered a chaos-resisting boss with this character because I'm trying to build him up to be as tough as possible before heading to the mountains...he hasn't died yet and I want to see how long I can keep it that way. But he is a lot of fun
