I installed Windows Vista on my laptop, and with a new OS comes a new bug: the walls are all black, and causes some other characters to be displaced, like the weapon shop... Nothing is really moved, but it displays as such. Until I fix that, it seems switching to graphics mode(Gasp! Graphics!! ) 16x16 fixes the problem, so if you're using Vista, for now, you may want to switch to graphics mode until I fix the bug. Don't worry, monsters are still letters, and they should work fine!

I've experienced that with several other roguelikes... nice to know it's not a problem with Portralis. Actually the tiles aren't bad, most tilesets I find difficult to play with, but I suppose that's mostly because of the monsters. This combination of tiled terrain and ASCII monsters is quite nice.

I also ended up with Vista when I bought a new laptop (BIOS got fried on the old one). It's not a bug with Portralis. When Microsoft made Vista, they deemed that support fort high ASCII was no longer neccessary. This problem happens with pretty much all rougelikes.

For people who like to play with the ASCII characters, the new version of tome seems to have a quick fix. I think DarkGod created an image of each ASCII character and put them together in a graphic tileset. Unfortunately, I can't find where the file is so that I can copy over to my other *bands.

Dow Actually, no need for a special ASCII tileset. Here's another method: Go into /lib/user, and open graf-new.prf. And then, just clear everything that's in that file. Restart the game, make sure the 16x16 Adam Bolt tiles are selected, and you'll get ASCII characters!
